  1. Yes

I have caught them live before by waiting patiently till the mound moved, then quickly sweeping the mound to one side.

I was trying this to try and get them to surface where my two spaniels were waiting

They are causing havoc on a grassed area I have down at my yard, so much so the ground is giving way when you walk across it.

I might have to resort to trapping them.

I want to catch some live ones to release in a garden of a customer that treated me like dirt last year

Ha ha don't they just drive you mad!!

I thought that would work too ........until I watched a documentry on them.

I cant remember what it was called......but basically they were doing the same as you in the pic. They some how filmed the mole in the hole...all he did was dig himself a little hole and put his head into until it was safe.

I used to catch them like you but went underneath them with a spade.

some died but I let the live ones go in a wood across the river from us.

I thought they wouldn't come back but the little sods can swim as well.:laugh1:

They aint half cute though, and the power in those front paddle/claw ry things is awesome.

  2. I will of course do my best, although i might suggest posting them in Kiezers Q and A thread, he is after all infinatley more qualified than I:blushing:

Many thanks.. I wasn't really sure where to put them for you fungi guys to have a look.

Here's the pics they're not great as my phone is a bit naff.

  3. I judge the wood I burn, on how big the crack gets ontop of my stove(caused from not putting it through enough heat cycles when I bought it)

Hardwoods open it a bit....but soft woods especially larch causes the crack to open nearly enough for the flames to come out of it.

Bring on the soft wood reveloution.

Actually don't because my customers will wan't to keep it and I won't have any to burn for free.

So SHHHHH Soft wood is rubbish ok.

  4. whats the point in spending time. Explaining to the customer the right way?....... and then saying ok you don't want that so i'll do it the wrong way instead:confused1:

you'd just as well not bother and do it their way in the first place IMO:001_smile:

I forgot to say we don't butcher trees either... I'd rather walk away than look back at something that looks crap. That's call good business to me.

  5. Must be nice - personally I prefer to tell them the right way and if they still want it their way I take the cash because priciples don't pay the bills.

  6. just a simple thought today the power of positive thinking ! lets all think positively towards barcelona tonight and put the mancs in there place once and for all lets hope whisky face retires after the shambles ha ha :001_tt2:

    Let me guess......Liverpool supporter?:001_rolleyes:

  7. I'd say what I tell customers, when they phone me up and ask how much would I charge to taking a tree down over the phone.

And that's "with out looking at it, I would just be plucking figure's out the air, because there are too many variable to take into consideration."

    just ask your self

How much you want for 1 tree and x it by 30

or how many trees you can do in a day x day rate x number of days

And that's your price!.....if you don't get it, you know you were too expensive and move on.

  8. I was cutting a conifer hedge by 2 hives a couple of weeks ago..........It was a nice hot day and the bees were very active.

I thought the noise/vibration/smell of 2 stroke would piss them off,but they just went about their buisness. I was quite surprised!!

It was nice watching them coming back and forwards laiden with the pollen.I had thoughts of freshly toasted bread, butter and a nice dollop of honey.mmm

I've been attacked by wasps... in fairness though I had just hit their house with a hedge trimmer,so don't really blame them, as I would of done the same.

Those African x south american bees(or something like that) are ment to be nasty buggers though!!and attack for fun.
