Thanks Squaredy.
Pity if they go to scrap, it would be nice to see even some of them brought back into service.
Great reply btw .👍

Likely it’s s already been seen but if not here’s an interesting little article about the last County
1164-40 County: The Final Chapter | Forest Machine Magazine

The 1164-40 was the last ever County tractor built. It was commissioned at the request of the...I would love to see photos of updated front axle/ hubs etc they used on the last ones they built.

Actually I noticed the stop bar was not activating. So this could indeed be the issue!
If you mean the stop bar isn’t stopping the rollers, better get sorted.
someone may have already bypassed to keep chipper going.
Wisest thing to do is get Dan to give entire machine a good checking over.

Maybe limit switch on the stop bar has corrosion or bad connection.
You could by pass to see if it stays running (obviously, don’t operate without stop bar working.).
another possibility is emergency stop button , check for corrosion, bad connections.
this can also be bypassed.

Stump grinding work seems to come in bursts if you’re a small outfit.
we often go three months or more with no stump grinding and then there’s lots. Hard to justify a large investment or finance for something that’s not used every week.
I used a rug 13 pedestrian grinder for years and subbed in for bigger jobs rather than struggling and committing too much time.
pedestian grinders are hard monotonous work and hard to earn much more than you would climbing and cutting .
A few years ago I upgraded to an old Vermeer 252 . It cost just under €5k.
it can easily earn our crew day rate , it’s not physically demanding and it’s no problem if it sits in the shed for months on end.
For really big stumps or large jobs I can hire a 40hp tracked Bandit for €160 a day (which is good considering it comes with sharp teeth which is probably the biggest running cost alongside fuel)
the Bandit is only 750mm wide while my Vermeer is about a metre wide with the dual wheels removed.
I haven’t had any stumps where I had to use a pedestrian grinder but I could easily hire one if needed.

Spotify on iPhone, cheap gamer headphones. Lead with iPhone plug on one end and speaker/headphone jack
on other (there’s a name for it but I’m too old to know it)
same lead work in truck.
easy on phone battery, great in tractor or mini digger

Had a 525 some years ago , I think it was a rebadged Zenoah, not sure if current model is same .
Was a lively little thing, great for pruning etc.
parked it because of chain oiling issue ,probably would have been easily fixed but never got around to it and then moved to battery saws for that type of work..

12mm stocboard would be heavy to handle, a fair bit heavier than ground mats and quite awkward to load as quite floppy.
the 6mm sheets are stronger than you would expect.

Not everyone wants the hassle of dealing with customers and a contract job is a nice change some times. I do 3 months a year cutting traditional roofs for a mate contracting no stress.
Utility work and no stress?
I don’t think so.

I think back end would be same as MF
265 (but open to correction 😁)
If you can find one for breaking, part’s could be compatible.
do you know if you have a hydraulic pump in the back end already?
or does loader work off engine mounted pump?

Just a heads up to users to keep an eye on the taper locks on the track drive sprockets.
one of mine came loose and broke.
simple enough fix , taper lock cost around €25 so I got a spare also.
when I checked the other side it took about half turn of allen key to tighten.

Seen something similar on a large rubber duck on a YouTube video.
was thinking of making up one using some of my “worn past their limit”
chipper blades.

Where I live the most things that get stolen are outboard boat engines, livestock trailers and quadbikes.
hardly anybody risks leaving outboards on boats anymore.
there have been a few instances in recent years, where outboards without trackers have been stolen while no attempt to take the ones nearby with trackers fitted.
The thieves seem to be well equipped and plan their thefts really well.

cool thanks for the replies, we have a machine on long term hire, we have a small grab for it to help on tree jobs plus we have a ton of large root ball trees to plant with it.
its a newish machine so i just wanted to do the right thing for it, is normal bearing grease okish? also are those special lock on grease gun heads good? i always seem to get grease all over myself!!
thanks carl
I’ve tried various grease gun heads and found the G coupler the best and easiest to clamp on and off,
a bit pricey but saves time and mess.

Heard years ago(don’t remember where)
8 to 1 volume of branches to volume of woodchip .
tight hedge like that would be similar, I would think.

Great saw!
ignition went in mine after around 2 and a half years and Husqvarna replaced it for free (I think there might have been a recall on some of the early ones).
still works good as new.

Easy enough dismantle to get what’s left of the coupling out.
any good Agri parts or hydraulic factors may stock or will easily source new coupling
Large bandsaw plus other saws.
