Having recently finished the BTEC National Diploma in Countryside Management at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell, I am seeking employment in arboriculture which will enable me to build upon the skills and knowledge I have acquired. I am 18 years old, have a full driving licence with no penalties and currently have my CS30 and CS31. My college course included subjects like woodland management, estate management (through which I learned how to hedge lay). I have grown up on a farm with a small woodland in my back garden, which I have maintained and managed from an early age. I do have my own car.
Education
2008 - 2010
Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell. BTEC National Diploma in Countryside Management. Core units include: Woodland Management, Estate Management, Machinery Operations, Green Wood Crafts and Ecology.
2003 - 2008
Stratford upon Avon High School - 8 GCSEs at grade C or above, as follows: B in Science, Physical Education, Additional Science, C in English, English Literature, Maths, Statistics and Geography.
Work Experience/Employment
October 2009 - Present:
Red Hill Christian Centre and Red Hill Farm. Following my college work experience I was asked to stay on and continue maintaining the 65 acre grounds surrounding the Centre for two days a week, which then dropped to one day when I returned to college to finish my course.
May - October 2009:
College work experience at the Red Hill Christian Centre and Red Hill Farm. As part of my course I was asked to do 12 weeks of work related experience within the industry. For this I chose to do ground maintenance at the Centre, the activities I carried out included, grass cutting, tree pruning, building maintenance and tree planting, for which I used and maintained a range of equipment, such as, chainsaws, a dumper truck, brush cutters and strimmers, a Land Rover Series 2a, a small tractor and a digger.
Summer 2007:
School work experience at Ragley Hall. As part of my time at school I was asked to carry out 2 weeks of work experience for which I chose to work with the gardening team at Ragley Hall. During my time at Ragley I carried out tasks including strimming, tree pruning, hedge cutting, weeding and planting. I received an employer commendation from Stratford upon Avon High School following my time at Ragley Hall. I also returned for a brief period during a School holiday for voluntary work in the gardens.
Additional Information
I hold a full provisional driving licence with no penalties.
I was team captain for the college athletics team.
I am a keen long distance runner and hold a national ranking, of 5th, for 10,000m on the track (under 20) and was ranked 7th in the UK for the same event in 2009. I captained the Warwickshire Schools team in the English Schools Cross Country Championships this year and represented Warwickshire Athletics Association in the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships and World Trials in March. To do this I have to be dedicated, disciplined and physically fit, which I think is relevant to my suitability for a work position.
I hold a CS30, for cross cutting and maintenance, and a CS30, for small tree felling. I also intend on getting my CS38, CS39 and a CSCS in the near future.
