  1. Anybody know how to disable the limiter? Have been felling on the highways tonight, ringing up an ash.

It took a few minutes for the autotune to get its crap together. Goes like stink! But under 10" and the limiter kicks in (14.2k rpm), after that it drops to a manageable speed, about 15-18" and it drops to the usual 8-12k rpm. Not much fun having logs catapulted towards you though! I'm surprised how strong it runs, as I was quite conservative with the porting compared to the Americans, but I suppose that's because they're running 28". At least the autotune means I don't have to piss around with a tach!

You're not working it hard enough.

Bigger sprocket and lower rakers .

Which chain and sprocket are you running ?

  2. You won't get more output by using 2 of the tractors spool valves.

Sounds like the winch will need to be connected to power beyond to get the flow you require.

A PTO pump requires a reservoir and 150-200 litres of oil so is not a cheap option. It may also prevent you from attaching what you want to the rear e.g 3 point linkage.

  3. The 40 and 45 share every thing but pot and piston.

My 40 has a 3 clutch shoes and spring is about 150mm fitted but not engaged.

part number 504 21 00-16 according to my parts pdf.

120mm would mean about 25% stretch - looks about right but could be a pig to fit.

  4. A Stihl spout on a normal 5l can works for me. Can't stand having the petrol and oil in the same cumbersome package. Combi cans were designed for loggers to make it easy to carry oil, petrol and basic tools for a long walk into the woods. Beats me why arb guys use them?

    My thaughts exactly.

Don't need chain oil for hedge trimming and strimming etc :001_rolleyes:

Decant chain oil into used 5 litre can.:thumbup1:

  5. You would buy it because it was one of the more affordable 3/8 chain available at the time. Since you would be grinding on it, you wouldn't bother starting with square chisel. RS is out, the teeth stand shorter than it does on Oregon chain. Oregon chain, with the taller teeth, have more chip clearance.

In any case, that was to show you the basics of how to make a chain faster. I would assume most would get the idea.

I accept your point about LP being taller than RS - its very noticeable if you put them side by side and explains why Stihl recommend a smaller (5.2mm) file for 3/8 chain.

However LP and LG are both round ground chisel and it must be difficult to grind the LP's drivelink down with the raker in the way.
