  1. Brilliant. Thanks for your help!
  2. I note the and hope that statement is tongue in cheek however for the avoidance of doubt. I Have absolutely no plan to do any such thing. I understand the work that goes into producing firewood, that people need to earn money to keep their business going as well as support themselves. I'm not going to get any fancy equipment out and start measuring moisture or ask that the load is stacked for me. I'm very fortunate in that cost is not a primary concern. Was hoping that I could put some business the way of a local suplpier through a site which has helped me in the past. I apologise if anyone has taken this thread in any other way. As in the first post MODS, please lock or remove if you see fit.
  3. Thanks logbaron @norush - There are lots of places around us with signs outside saying logs for sale. You wouldn't believe how many are next to or in old quarry works. Only not going to any of then as I've taken advantage of some of the expertise on here (in other forum areas) and now I have the opportunity to repay the kindness if you like by placing an order with one of the memebers.
  4. No, not me.
  5. Hi All. My normal supplier has let me down somewhat. ( family member so say nothing). Anyway. I'm after a flat bed transit tipper load of barn dried logs. Size between 8 and 12 inches. I would like it delivered to DE45 1WR and would prefer mixed hard and soft wood. Can offer cheque, cash or credit card as payment. Mods. If this request is out of order please either lock or delete this post and please accept my apologies. Otherwise for those interested in supplying please pm me. thanks
  6. Thanks, Will try the pruning and feed suggestions. What are the chances of this spreading to other trees? (difficult question I know) I have a young (5rys) orchard on the other side of the stonewall to the aggected cherry and would rather those trees weren't affected. Thanks again!
  7. Hi All I wonder if some kind sole could help diagnose the issue with the cherry tree and (unknown type of) bush in the pictures. Both the tree and bush were perfectly healthy at the start of the year with normal leaf growth. After we had a very late harsh frost the tree looked decidedly unwell with wilting leaves from teh base to about 2/3rds of the way up. New leaves then formed but have since died. It's hard to see in the pictures but basically we now only have leaves on the top 3rd of the tree with everything below that looking dead and decaying. More recently a bush which up until abotu 5 weeks ago was looking fine is now showing the same symptoms (much easier to see in the pictures). The bush is situated about 20 feet from the tree. Would greatly appreciate knoing what is wrong and also is it likely to spread to other neighbouring trees? What would be ther best course of action with these 2? Many thanks in advance.
  8. Afraid I haven't a clue what the chipper was:blushing: Not being in the business, it won't help I'm sure but it was Orange.
  9. It is probably completely innocent which is why I haven't posted the vans reg number. There is though just a chance that it isn't......
  10. All Followed a van towing a chipper in Chesterfield this morning. Two things aroused my suspicions so thought I'd post about it here. Firstly, the towing vehicle and the chipper had different number plates. Secondly, the towing vehicle was an unmarked white panel van...didn't strike me as the type of vehicle that would be towing a chipper on the way to a job. The registration on the chipper was AE59 EZG. I have the registration number of the towing vehicle should this be required Spotted at 8am today in Walton area of Chesterfield.
  11. Bit early IMO. I prune mine mid Jan when trees will be totally dormant.
  12. Hi All Am planning to book myself onto CS30/31 course during November down at kingswood. I see from their website that your can hire all the kit needed for £10 a day but would it be better to use your own chainsaw? I saw in another post that the Husky 346XP would be a very good 1st chainsaw (having checked it out I'm thinking of buying one) and wondered whether it would be better to be taught using my own saw than learn maintenance etc on what will probably be a different make/model. Apologies if this is a stupid question Jonathan
  13. You're right I didn't look properly it was £385 +VAT:blushing:
  14. New or second hand? £385 new......... For second hand I'm thinking £200
  15. Hi All Looking to get myself booked in to do the above. Kingswood looks like a good place to learn and they do a one week combined course which is ideal as I'll have to take time off work to do it. However, it's a long way from home. Does anyone know if there is anyone in Derbyshire who also offers a combined course? Google is only bringing up colleges offering CS30 &31 as part of their Arb courses. Thanks in advance:thumbup1:
  16. Seems to me that there are 2 seperate issues.... Firstly the logs, I'd have a chat with him so he has chance to explain himself then depending on answer go in with the cctv edivence and take action as appropriate. Secondly, the "missing" kit. Without proof that it was him who lifted it then you could be opening a can of worms if you accuse him of theft and dismiss him. You could search his van but he'd have to give you permission to do so. Tricky situation either way.
  17. this is true......never say never!
  18. Not sure I would bring too much to the party with no experience or qualifications (yet!!)......sadly.
  19. you won't go wrong with Fasthost or 123-reg. Personally I use 123-reg. GoDaddy not a big name in the UK although I've heard good things from my US colleagues.
  20. As well as my normal day job I run a company that makes custom made log stores. Unfortunately Winchester is a little too far for me to travel to do you one but if you want an idea of what mine look like please follow this link: Peak Outdoor and click on the Gallery section. I can supply you a kit list for any of the sizes listed there so you can organise your own timber for the job, or if you want to, send over the size you'd like and I would be happy to create a kit list for you and send you some simple (ish) instructions for assembly.
  21. A huge thanks to all who've replied it's greatly appreciated! @Monkeypuzzle22: Thanks for the offer. Thanks to this forum I've been contacted by a local company offering a few days as a taster session. Here's hoping it's for me!

  23. Hello all! Having spent my entire working life since leaving school in the misguided belief that money = happiness I'm seriously considering a complete change of career. Trees (orchards in particular) have always been important to me and since planting my own orchard a few years ago my interest has only increased. So, one of the careers I'm considering is becoming and arborist hence the question above. I read in a few locations that it's "a young mans game" and although i can fully understand that climbing, working at height and generally handling timber is not easy is it really beyond the capabilities of the average (slim) 39 year old? Assuming the answer to the above is "no" Passing the relevent courses and getting my own PPE would not be an issue. I'd then be looking to gain experience (probably on a volunteer basis) to make sure the lifestyle change is what I hope it is so I can fully commit.... I'd value the collective wisdom of the forum:001_smile: Thanks for reading:thumbup1:
