  1. I know its bad timing to start up , but been in the industry nearly 20 years always employed, so I thought if I don't do it now i never will.and i cant climb forever.

....know that feeling. whereabouts are you? I need a guy, with a decent sized tipper this saturday in devon.....

  2. I would - sounds like it may have been planted too deep (trop profond?) ha cant remember le spelling. - get some big stakes and straps on it - 4 would be ideal but allow just un petit peu de movement - crown thin/reduce too. apples are good transplanters

    bon chance old bean

  3. could somebody confirm what these are - I don't think these are hispidus and perenniporea in the photos which means they probably are! tried to show the brittle fracture on this basal ash limb that failed. Hispidus would be black now wouldn't it?

apologies for the qualities of the photos - the tree hangs over a ravine and I was stretching with the phone.

going back to cut the limb up, strip the ivy off and get the mallet out tomorrow.

    hope the pics appear below

    Murky buckets in advance

  4. Let me ask a farmer: I'll get back to you.

    Jon

This isn't who want to be a millionaire Jon, I just want to get rid of some wood chip!!!!!!! Thanks for going to the trouble.

Graham I'll text you a little later on, nice one thanks......

More sites the merrier - there is about 5 transit loads in all - we will have to bring home what we cant give away.

  5. ditto the above - the only timber that should be removed from the wood is living stuff - there is no way of guessing the amount of deadwood to any degree of certainty- if its in a wild state there should be loads of deadwood - great. If it has to be tidied so it can look like a greeting card then at least stack the deadwood on site, eh!?!

  6. The 150 I can say is a stonkingly good machine

thanks m8y. the 150 is the one they are bringing unfortunately there isn't a 130 demo for some reason, perhaps for the reasons Pete mentioned above!!!

I expect I can only afford the 130 :001_rolleyes: I'm looking for a machine that will see out my tree surgery years....

  7. Thanks Pete,

Liam from MST Tiverton is coming up next week for a demo.

Reminds me - must get some sleepers / old oak beams in..... Got a good variety of brush to try out.

so i'm well on the path to the green side......good to hear you're candidly airing the teething problems and getting them fixed.

What's the experience from the fields people?

    Cheers

  8. Looks good if you can preserve the looks. As an aside do you mill healthy holly? I know a few turners like it but not many because it's difficult to dry without splitting.

I ask as I felled a 16"dbh specimen in West Sussex last week (yes, I know: I'd rather not have done but the owner was adamant that it was in the way) and have left it in lengths to maximise potential use.

    Thanks,

    Jon

You'll need to leave it to rot for years to become as interesting as the one in this thread...4 or 5 years my guess otherwise its just p.l.a.i.n!

  9. C'est la bloody vie, eh! All play and no work frog-side then!!!

I got a taste for pineau de charantes when i was wwoofing down that way near ruffec.

i know its warmer in france but my plums will be rock hard till august! Sounds simple - when my trees are bigger i might like to try that.

    Cheers for posting!:grinning-smiley-003

  10. Get an accountant for God sake Mark. He will advise perfect balance between profit and tax credits, with tax credits it is not only based on income but working hours you will also get standard child tax credits. Also with a big chipper he will claim for it year after year as deprecation and will advise you best way to buy it to limit tax bill. Every situation is different so we can only advise from personal circumstances which may not reflect your situation, rant over. How's life treating you being a dad, has the misses found a new hobby in expensive change bags and prams yet?

yea all good - havent chopped anything off in the sleep-deprived haze yet. i just read that to her and she went 'oh that reminds me im bidding on something on ebay....' :001_rolleyes:

  11. self-emloyed and just had a kid....anyone know how much you lose for every extra £1000 profit you make?

is this a good excuse to tell the missus i should buy a bigger chipper as its going to be half price or whatever!??!?!?!

taking into account 20%tax, 9% NI already.....

i'd be interested to know how other people look at this....probably through and accountant!

    Cheers

  12. Grad a spade and start digging. If the handle starts to get hot quick you have found power. If it hisses. You have found gas and if you get wet but its now raining you have hit water.

And if the bloke next door hits you on the nose you have hit the tv/phone cable.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

love it! lets just say i wont be making pilot holes for the stakes with an iron bar!!!!!!

  13. without doing a course first? i urgently need to scan some sites after a mate of mine got the hump with me over somthing i know nothing about and wont do it? can i just hire one and go for it?
