  1. When we got married, 8 years ago we decided not to have a TV.

The only time it's been missed is when Liz would have watched the olympics...

Radio is sound. (bum bum!) Radio 4 most of the time - early morning current affairs and early evening comedy are great. (as already said)

I can't stand the 'dramas' that you hear 10mins of when driving around then hear the same section again another day.

Daytimes in the van the ipod's on...

We spend the TV license fee on DVD boxsets of the likes of 24, Spooks, Law & Order, NCIS etc.

Watch an episode, turn it off and talk. It's better for everyone

  2. I've paid tax for 30 years without claiming a penny from anyone. Why should I pay for everyone elses further education and those from foreign countrys :001_smile:

Those foreigners who come here specifically for uni pay a lot of money for the priviledge!:confused1:

I have a mate who's an admissions tutor. They make so much money off of foreign students that they send him off recuiting - Greece, Canada, Spain, all pretty much every year.

They actually help the uni run by paying over the odds :001_smile:

  3. I'm planning on sinking in some RSJ's then slotting the panels between

Dean, ones that I helped a farmer with were fixed with a plate to the RSJs so that the conc panels were totally flush and butted up to each other. Smooth walls, nothing for the loader to catch on and break.

All you need do is use a shield anchor on the 'outside' of the panel and bolt plates that clamp to the back of the RSJ.

Easy and quick, you even end up with some flexibility in spacing, long enough plates will allow you to be a couple of inches out.

Will find out his supplier and try to take a pic or two on tues if you want.

  4. I have just ordeered one today.

Spoke to Stihl tech this morning. It is just a standard keyless chuck so you can obviously use normal round, tri or hex shank in it. Have you got wood drills with SDS shanks or do you want to drill masonry?!?

  5. From what I understand lifejacket type bouyancy aids are no good for the swimming baths unless you want her to float vertical-is with her head held above the water. :001_huh:

My eldest is almost 3, for the last year or so she's been on armbands. I am sure I remember using them when I was 7/8/9? They allow you to swim but help you to stay afloat.

  6. The best thing IME to dry clothes is a de-humidifier.

It's pointless having the fire/heating on (unless it's cold) just think of all the water that's going into the air and then the plaster, furnishings etc in the house. A dehumidifier uses about the same energy as a fridge and collects all the extracted water in a tank for disposal.

They are fantastic. If you need to dry stuff quickly put dehum. and clothes on maiden in the smallest room and leave for the evening and night - should be dry by the morning.

Cost iirc about £150+ for a decent one.

  7. I have problems all the time with the Stihl rocker type on/off switches. on strimmers, blowers, hedgecutters.

Think the type you have is different but to cure mine I just squirt WD40 into the switch around the rocker and switch it a few times, normally clears it quite quickly, I guess it's just a bit of muck or oxidation on the contacts.

  8. "anyone know anything about prssure washers?"

yup,, if you stick your hand in the jet close to the nozzle it hurts like hell....:001_smile:

Didn't hurt me when I did that. Was holding a mower bag with my left hand, passed the jet close over my right hand by accident and spotted a red line a few seconds later :confused1:

    Still have a 1.75" scar 2 years later :001_huh:

  9. If you want to snap chains regularly use that cheap engine oil from wilkinsons or asda,i've had them go after a week from new,it don't lubricate or stick, wouldn't want to put it in a car engine

Isn't engine oil too thin? ( and nasty to environment )

I was told by trainer that if necessary veg oil is ok as a chain lubricant.

  10. is exhaust restricted rob? all gummed up inside, not sure what that model is like but had trouble with other trimmers fouling up mesh in exhaust.. heat up with torch and wirebrush to clean..

I'd forgotten this - was many years ago. My dealer told me to remove and chuck the spark arrestor (mesh) as they we just fitted for areas where legislation required them - mind you, with how the weather is going at the moment, maybe ahould have them on!

  11. I even have a friend who was asked in interview why if he was so interested in the role why had he wasted his time on arb contracting rather than direct his career that way earlier!

If I was interviewing I would ask this kind of question to see if the applicant had thought about how the two roles actually did link up :sneaky2:
