  1. Hi We are a small tree surgery business in North London. We are looking for a competent climber on a part time and subbie basis. Days are different every week. We run a small friendly team and are looking for someone to come and help the business grow. Rates of pay depend on experience although if we can grow the business you will be rewarded accordingly. 5+ years climbing experience would be ideal. Most of our work is private residential. NPTCs, Own climbing kit, we can provide all saws etc. Drivers license and trailer license ideally. Please send through a CV if you are interested. [email protected] Thanks
  2. Thank you for all your great advice. I am going to contact the tree officer (seems safest)
  3. Thanks. The galvanised bolts that move as the tree grows sound perfect. (Just unsure if they would be seen as wilful damage)
  4. Anyone had this situation before? This is an email from a client - "I wish to install a CCTV camera on the trunk of a large tree in my front garden. The tree is subject to a TPO. I would not want to damage it. Would you be able to advise" I have no idea what to advise. Thanks in advance, Dan.
  5. Climber wanted for small North London based family run tree surgery business. All aspects of climbing, tree surgery, hedge cutting on a self employed basis. Appropriate certificates required and a trailer license beneficial. Please send CV to [email protected].
  6. Thanks for all the responses they have given me a lot to think about. I live and work in different areas so there wont be any danger of taking my employers clients. However after reading all your different opinions i will speak to him and hopefully he will be understanding.
  7. Hadnt thought about any of those things - working for yourself really is a challenge. Thanks for all your advice (glad to hear you got away with it for years though)
  8. That sound very promising mate thanks heaps
  9. Ask them questions eg who has got trees in their garden etc get them involved then you wont have to say as much
  10. Thanks mate i havent even started yet and its getting expensive (partly why i am only doing a day or so to start - too much of a chicken to say goodbye to that regular wage slip staright away)
  11. you are totally right - hopefully i can keep advertising costs fairly low cos everything else is going to clear me out but i realise how important it is to get your name out there. Do you still need employers if you employ someone as a Sub contractor? I have no idea. Thanks for your help
  12. Thanks mate i will phone around and see what they can offer (i just seem to get a standard answer though)
  13. Hi Everyone After 5 years of working for someone else i have decided to take on a few private jobs. I went to FR Jones and spoke to jonsie about kit, i also asked him about insurance and he recommended that i register here and ask for some help. My concern is that initially i might only do 1 day a week and insurnace is looking expensive. Public is not too bad but employers seems very steep. Do i require full employers? the insurance companies seem to think so but they might have other interests at heart other than whats best for me (perhaps i am just a cynic) Any advice would be greatly appreciated Regards Dan
