  1. We actually buy most of our own parcels nowadays ,others are usually direct for grower and we do the marketing
  2. No , neither, ive dealt with both companies down the years. The company that was on Invereary no longer exist.
  3. Yeah, know what youre saying, most of my works been hardwood down the years, bit more leeway there, not often you come across a veneer sitka or a figured larch hey? What im saying is you only need to look at the price of sawlogs and work the costings back and it doesnt leave much for anybody , including the grower.
  4. Is there much hand fell work up there now? A lot of the best timber will have gone , the rest will be left for amenity i guess ? There was always a shortage of Scotch large timber fallers, they all seemed to be geared up for smaller stuff.
  5. North West (England), but we move around.
  6. No, its 35 years ago, can remember the stats. for the heli. but the skyline no, a lot of water passed under the bridge since then .
  7. There was a skyline on that job, owned by the company, Cat d4s brought the bigger stuff out. Got pics, will put some up one day.
  8. Ton a lift back in those days, would imagine its more now, was only taking about a minuite a lift, with guys slinging up in front .
  9. In those days it was 270 quid an hour, 4 hours flying , i hr , service, 4 hrs. flying.I reckon it will be a few squid more now.
  10. Nah,have just always worked all over the place.Followed the big timber around in those days. They had some cracking timber off that job.Iremember the fallers saying they had Silvers with around 1800 hoppus in them, thats almost 60 tonnes.A lot of big hardwood too.I was a measurer in those days, only 17.
  11. No, they werent a local company, but they brought an awful lot of timber-- big timber off Inverary Castle. The heli. was used alongside other means of extraction.
  12. The company i started my timber career with were extracting with helicopter in that area in 1974/5.so no not new
  13. Cheers Cutter, Looks a bit different to when we were there,i think the new owners had not had the place long and so things were very much in their infancy then. I tried shortcutting across the brook on a Cat 951,looked fairly innocent off the bank, water ended halfway up the bonnet, took 9 hours to get out, drop the oils and sort it, took some flak over that.
  14. Yeah, Daisy had all the timber out of the walled garden area, and one or two other small blocks, quite a bit of Yew tree in there, we had all the timber from the bigger outlying areas , lot of beech off the chalk banks up behind the old airship mooring , all round the keepers cottage and a lot of Turkey oak out of the park , was one of the first sites we started working in that area.
  15. Oh ok, we took all the timber off there after the 87 windblow, yeah i agree nice part of the county.
