  1. That’s interesting as when I recently asked for an insurance quote from Nfu for a tractor with front loader they said it would need loler checking which I was surprised by. Never been asked that before and I doubt any farmers round here do.

  2. It does sound good and I’m getting the itch for a new saw reading about it. I have to say though that although the direct injection engine is tried and tested I’ll be waiting a year before I fork out my hard earned cash. The early 261 problems weren’t to do with the engine so much as I understand and Stihls track record of taking responsibility for faulty equipment is rubbish

  3. I’ve recently had my second 130 from GA Groundcare and it is a cracking bit of kit. Really well thought out and extremely capable. I swore this would be the chipper I keep and run into the ground but I have a nasty feeling I’ll be tempted by the 150p in 3 years time!

  4. Articulated or front steer- What are people’s preferences for alpines. Which is the most manoeuvrable? Im looking at reverse steer, and would be mostly grass cutting/ flailing.

How is the Antonio Carraro regarded?

Antonio Carraro are a well regarded make. I had a small articulated Goldoni and now I have a front steer pasquali. I went front steer as it allows me to have a front loader and can be more stable on a steep slope. However driving the articulated one was more fun!
  5. The benefits to man, machine and the environment that Aspen claims in my mind do justify a higher price tag than pump petrol. Just not over 3 times the price. Double I could just about live with and I think I would make the permanent shift as I really did enjoy using it. I'm sorry to harp on about the price again as it has been covered over and over but if only it could be a bit more affordable it would appeal to a lot more of the professional market and sales would skyrocket.

  6. I would echo Woodworks comments. I seriously considered an Avant or MO for my business but I was unimpressed with their pushing ability and off road abilities in a flat field (admittedly in winter). Also felt the MO and the Avant to a lesser extent was very plasticky. I ended up getting an Alpine tractor with a loader. It won't lift a huge amount but its off-road ability is second to none, pto attachments are relatively cheap and with a grab on the front it will push into a heap of brash in a wet field without the wheels spinning. For me it is the ideal tool but it is horses for courses and for many an Avant type loader would be the ideal tool.

  7. Having read a lot about Aspen and finding that my local dealer stocked it I decided to give it a crack. I bought 15 cans and was given a good discount. I enjoyed using it but winced filling up the big saws, brush cutters or backpack blower. It was certainly nicer to handle than petrol and I expect it is good for the engines but the sheer cost has put me off. As said above it's about 3x the cost of pump petrol. In 10 years of using petrol I've never had a carb issue so for me I can't justify it. Halve the price and I'll be on board!

  8. I have had this week playing with the uniforest winch on the tractor and I am really impressed. Winching trees up a steep slope, causing almost zero damage to the ground and allowing us to process the timber and arisings on the flat. I have discovered its limits but it will pull a hell of a lot!b4f9faf7ff120b148b3b77e4abd51513.jpg8f22557252940ea60a1391407fc278ed.jpgcdbd76f514f4c2fea7b77e983f4520a1.jpg35d28f4b76e5e1e327d828622b7ba701.jpg

  9. I've just bought a uniforest 35M from Riko for my Pasquali. Can't wait to try it out. I need to winch trunks up a steep slope then onto a flat field where the tractor will be parked. Is it ok to do this in one pull as there is nothing in the field to attach a snatch block to? Or should I have the tractor parked right at the edge of the slope then use the tractor to drag them onto the flat?

  10. What are people's thoughts on the Ineos Project Grenadier? Supposedly they are going the build the 'spiritual' replacement for the Defender. I like the aim, not to change the shape too much but to improve the quality of engineering to make it as reliable as a land Cruiser but keep it utilitarian. I really really hope they can pull it off as I think the official Land Rover offering is going to be just another SUV but I don't know how they can do it.

  11. I only really use the app which is great. Usually just flick through today's posts. Is there a way of refreshing the today's posts page on the app without scrolling all the way back to the top again? Great job though Steve

  12. I have an old tanaka strimmer that I now use with the hedge trimmer head. It gets very little maintenance but goes on and on. It starts first pull every time. My one criticism is it has high vibes but this may have been sorted on more recent models
