  1. As far as i know you can run red diesel as long as you go no further that 15 miles from your base!
  2. On the occassions of i have driven a full truck load and trailer load the breaking has never been compromised. the whole rig was designed for this in mind! Know you know why i need to expand into a larger vehicle!!!
  3. Most chip trucks on the road are illegal/ over weight mine just dont look it!!! Red diesel is also about 50% cheaper than white!
  4. Ive seen engins and gear boxes go, Hence the reason why looking at an old dog and re- building. Just to replace the engine with a merc 2 year guarantee + labour im looking at 15K that does include clutch plate though.
  5. I have uprated my landrovers suspension and anti roll bars so they will carry 3+tonn and not sit on the bump stops. I need more capacity!!!
  6. How can a mot every year, road tax and 3X the insurance not to mention the parking issues of 7.5 tonn and above, compare to free road tax, no MOT, 1/2 priced fuel and really cheap tractor insurance! Most of my work is within 15 miles of base though and my main groundie cannot drive. Also Stu wont be at the yard much longer, I have better things to spend my money on!
  7. Stu started out with Matt/Buzz but decided to let him do things his own way!! He then proceeded to purchase a mog and then change his company name, then purchase another mog and then go bust! I do like your 7.5 tonn though, have looked into purchasing one but when doing a balance sheet mog still comes out on top. Regards Fat Boy
  8. Ok we have been working 6 days a week for the past 18 months sundays and evenings i look at jobs! At present i run 2x landy 130 tippers 1x towing chipper and the other towing a 12x 6 trailer with 4' sides and still i cannot keep up!! At present we are quoting for work 4-6 weeks ahead and only today i have been looking at a months worth of work. My landys take approx 12m2 of chip and the trailer 8m2. Like SKYHUCK most of my work i need to fit in an 8ft gateway, so unit, engine and trailer surgestion's would be good. Regards Fat Boy
  9. Ok guy's cheers for the replies so far. I have been lead to belive that 1300 and above are heavy duty chassis/ axel's and below are light weight. I have seen a 1250 for sale with atkinson vos and Im pondering weather to purchase this vehicle but to replace the engine and gear box plus other things! or weather to look for a larger model (ie1500 or 1750) to poss do the same with, and in the not to distant future tow timber/ large trailers. Stu we dont know each other but we often pass each other! landrover owners notice other landy owners! Regards Fat Boy
  10. Not confused by HP and Chassis size. Just wondering would it be worth buying a 1200 with kackered engine and sticking bigger engine in or getting a 1300/1500/1600 and doing the same?
  11. Thought you worked out of a yard Farham Way Stu !!!!
  12. Just about to start looking for my first mog and need some help with picking the right model. Do i go for light weight model or plan ahead and get the heavy duty chassis model with bigger HP to possible tow timber trailer or large hook loader in the fiture? What HP would you recomend and also what wheel base?
  13. Gave them 50 quid for the wood!!! Should have charged for taking the timber away!
