just been on the honey bros site lookin for new rope, came across the tachyon rope. made by new england. they come in orange or in green. however i noticed anothertachyon rope with exactly the same write up, swl, etc, but with black flecks. but its supposedly made by Teufelberger. Is this just the name of the colour or Another manufacturer selling another tachyon rope. coz i thought tachyon was the name of the rope like xtc, the hb site APPEARS to be suggesting that its the material. :confused1:

hey dude. when i started, my boss said he wud provide me with the absolute basic gear to do the job, yeah thats chainsaw wellies to me and you:scared1: and if i wanted anything else i wud have to pay extra my self. duno what other guy's reckon, but personally, a person's age is irrelevant, if he is a good bloke, then good money, bad bloke, then bad money, just b honest, cant say fairer than that.

in my experience of sub work, you get what you pay for. ie more kit, more money. for one bloke, climbing kit, and top handle, you get about £85-£120 a day. but if your providing saws, rigging kit and chipper, then upto about £150 -£250 a day. competition is so tight round here ya just cant the money. but lets face it, if you need a subby to provide all the kit, then they arent really a subby are they, the're the boss.

ratchet straps hadnt occured to me, good idea. defo above the head, dont want to get a smack in the teeth:help:, i keep all my saws razor sharp, blunt saws are just an accident waiting to happen. Cheers for the input. Mucho appreciated.

Theres is planety of room in the direction of its lean, however its in an SSSRI woodland site, with mature oaks either side of the crash zone, so i cant fell it on the angle, dont fancy climbing it due to root rot and we are not allowed machinery in the wood so that counts out hoists.

i got a large poplar that needs felling. got alot of a lean on it. with a lot of wait. plenty of room to land it, no probs there. no space any where else. just a bit concerned about barber chairing. was just guna bore cut it then severe the holding strap. got any better ideas? to give you an idea, its 85/90ft high and about 3ft across.

what i should have said and been more clear was, i think the chap should email YOU for more info as you would be much more informed with the current legislation etc.

oh yeah dont know about spiderjacks, i found them to be to sensitive in a work situation.

while i was getting my loler test done, me and my old college lecturer got talkin bout lock jacks and stuff, he mentioned that i shouldn't be using XTC blaze to work with as all climbing ropes for work situations had to conform to a certain class, A i think, and yale is a class B. got him to check it out for me. im almost 100% certain that he email the guy over at treeworker.co.uk for some info and thats what he came back with. i found that the best combination for self tailing is a 13mm cam with the edelrid rope. it slide thru much better, and gripes it better to when ya weight is in the harness. i climbed for 2 years on a yale blaze with an 11mm lock jack, didnt work as well FOR ME as the edelrid.

alright chap, hows things? lock jacks are only "supposed" to be used with edelrid ropes, something to do with the different safety ratings, ie class a, b or c. cant remember the eact details,but basically edelrid ropes are the only ones that conform. however excellent the yale ropes are, ya not meant to use them. I recommend the madiera rope [ i think thats how its spelt ] by edelrid, it runs through the jacks cam much better as it is only 12.7mm rather than 13mm. and as its 12.7its a lighter rope wich follows you round the tree a little better, but its not SO thin that you have to wear gloves when climbing with it, tho i do. hope that helps:thumbup1:
