would be good to know of a cheaper alternative, to give to an apprentice or some such

Good point, they can be bought for 60-£70 on ebay, just wondered if anyone on here has bought one.

Looking to buy a cheapo top handle saw, no doubt it will be chineese, I currently use my ms200 for fencing work and I feel I'm destroying a good expensive saw. The cheapo saw will be used only for cutting posts , tree roots etc. Any recommendations? I don't really want to spend much more that £100 , so it really will be the bottom end of the market . Ive only ever bought stihl and I'm not expecting the build quality to be anywhere near them.

It's hard enough that there are loads of people undercutting everyone for cheap tree work but if they're fencing as well we may as well give up
Blimey, its hot enough doing tree work in this weather , let alone running around someones garden sword fighting as well.

I doubt the people who steal saws are breaking them for parts, more likely selling them to a fence as quickly as possible so they don't get caught in possession. These people don't want the work of stripping saws, just as much cash as they can get and on to the next crime scene.
Like any business , quick turnover, small profit with plenty of sales:thumbdown:

200 posts? I'd be getting a digger (any size that will fit) with an auger on it, you will have them all drilled out in a day if you have them all premarked beforehand.
I can't stand those handheld post borers- dreadful things and I'd sooner use a good grafting space and shoveholers given the choice.
Digger and auger every time if access permits

I have found in a mixed pile left outside with oak for instance, the birch will have turned to mush by the time the oak has seasoned.
Agree:thumbup1:

Ive got a big frozen turkey that i would like to cut in half
question is could i split it with my pto saw bench safely and neatly
Frozen being more solid than fresh, id say yes it would be a clean cut, book a couple of days off work after eating it though. Let us know how you get on as I'm sure theres quite a few on here who are also thinking of cutting their sunday joint in half with a saw bench, good luck mate.

I'm going with the 7 litre Shelby Cobra .
Hard to beat that:thumbup1: round about 800bhp. 170 odd mph and in the 1960s as well. word is that one was clocked doing about 180mph on the m1 when there wasn't a speed limit, which is why they introduced the 70 limit. Also my 1977 ap50 with no baffles:laugh1:

Had a call from a farmer friend asking for help concerning his 018: Starts and ticks over, revs up to around half throttle no problem, as soon as he tries any higher revs it gasps and dies as though its being starved of fuel. He has changed filler cap , spark plug, air filter and cleaned the carb throughout. Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers , its a 2001 model ,my advice was chuck it on ebay and buy a new one.

Hi all,
if you can help shed light on what tree this is would be much appreciated.
They are causing shade over a garden & I'm wondering whether to advise felling, pollarding, or leaving them to get on with it.
Only problem is that I have absolutely no idea what tree they are!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom in advance!
In case the picture doesn't work - it is about 30m tall with a curving trunk.
The bark has distinctive diamond shaped lesions in silvery bark.
Very wet ground in a flood zone.
Here is the pic

I wonder how they cope with paint?
Blasting is good because it removes paint etc, if this just removes the rust but leaves manky paint on you're not much nearer really.
Blastings ok as long as the metal your blasting is sound, on old cars etc the metal can be very thin and blasting will damage it, with the lazer there is no force on your work. I was going to phone a mate who restores old vehicles and tell him to watch this, until it was mentioned that they start at 30k

my bigger concern is if it will be able to lift it or not.
Lift out of the hole or lift it on to a pick up etc ? knock all the soil of the roots and it,ll lift it no probs
