Thanks for the comments, I've got more of the gardens that i'll put up. Hi Janey, we have two of the arbutus but the other is in poor shape having spent most of its life (so far!) being overgrown by a macrocarpa cypress, which has now been removed, so hopefully it will start to recover. stew

Hi, I came accross this forum ages ago whilst researching for a horticultural course and came back again recently by chance, and have become a bit addicted to looking at the photo's posted. I'm not an arborist but the gardens I work at do have some interesting trees and other bits that I thought I would share. Taxodium Arbutus menziesii Beech growing out of a sweet chestnut(?) stump Eucalyptus gunnii I have others of plants/trees etc if interested. Attatched is Dactylorhiza fuchsii currently flowering in the wild flower meadow. Hope you found these interesting, Stewart

In BS 5837 it says its from research by Matheny and Clark from their book trees and development. I would be interested to know the scientific basis too. i tried to contact one of the authors for my dissertation but got no response.

Im doing an Amenity Horticulture degree that has arb modules aswell. I would definately recommend doing a degree as it opens up opertunities outside of your chosen area as a degree shows a level of commitment and skill basis that can be transfered. I too agree with the comment above about CAD. If its offered where you want to study, do it !! One thing i would say is don't expect to be outside that much. 90% of teaching is in the classroom on a degree. Good luck with what you choose, Stew

Been looking into this as well. Licence passed after 97 can drive up to 3.5tn with a trailer up to 750kg on standard B grade without having to pass the E part. For trailers over 750kg the max weight of the trailer cannot be over the weight of the towing car/van and the weight of the two put together cannot exceed 3.5tn as far as i understand. Stu

Hi, I am a student studying Bsc Landscape and Amenity Management at Writtle College and I'm looking for people with experience of working with BS 5837. My dissertation is looking into the adequacy of current tree protection regulations for trees on construction sites. I have a short word document based questionnaire that should only take 10 mins to complete and is attached to this post. The questionnaire asks questions about BS 5837's content and use.
