  1. Some customers ask if I would like a deposit before starting work. I have always declined. I have a couple of three day jobs with four men to arrange. I am going to ask for a 50% deposit as they are new customers and I would like some financial security before starting work. Does this sound reasonable? and do any other arb. businesses ask for deposits?

  3. I am looking to get a 750kg chipper to replace my Jensen A530 6" Chipper. This is so that others can legally tow. I am getting a new Timber wolf 230 (?) on demo and have looked at getting second hand Jensen contractor 750kg. I have just seen that Raptor do a 750 KG chipper. Has anyone got experience of using Raptor chippers? They are an eastern European brand and are cheaper than other makes. Is this due to lower costs or lower build quality?

    Aspen fuel

I got sequence of events a bit mixed. After new carb did not solve problems they then took off new carb and replaced old one with new pump. I have very little mechanical knowledge. Could solvents in normal 2-stroke mix have softened seals on engine and then shrinkage have caused leaks once I changed to Aspen?
  10. They are both in for yet another repair at moment. One unit has cost me about £190.00 in repairs in last 6 months. The frustration and waste of time these machines have caused when trying to start them or keep running! Swearing from top of hedges. When I get them back i shall put them on e-bay and hope they sell to someone who lives a long way off and only does hedges once a year.

    Aspen fuel

I use a mechanic for most repairs/servicing. After starting with Aspen I had problems. They originally thought one MS200T needed a new carb, so changed it and problems persisted with starting and running. They then found that seals were leaking on engine and replaced these and gasket and put a new pump piston kit. It then needed tuning and runs ok at moment but I feel not as good at starting as before. My second MS200T is still with them it had new pump piston kit fitted but still did not run right. They are now looking at seals on this one. I shall let them know your advice. Thanks.
  13. Have read your link. Thanks for that. I shall cut losses with these power units but don't know if I will be able to sell them on! Annoying that dealer who sold me these units never mentioned any problems when I asked and then got very upset/rude to me when I complained about problems.

    Aspen fuel

Has anyone got any experience of problems with using ASPEN fuel. It may be coincidence but my saws seem to have problems running properly since switching to this fuel. Am I imagining this? It could be that my two year old MS200t are on way out.
  15. I have two, 2 year old Sthil Combi power units for use with hedge-cutter heads or pole saw - model KM 130R. Both have problems with flooding air filter with fuel. Have followed advice to change diaphragm on fuel tanks but not solved problem. They have been unreliable starting since purchase. One unit in particular is costing a lot in repairs i.e. stripping down to change cam wheel twice in 2months and valve collets etc.. Mechanic i use says that these machines have been problem to many other users and that one dealer no longer sell them due to complaints. Any thoughts/advice? Also got sthil 0261 groundsaw that had faults from manufacture. These were repaired free of charge but only after I had spent a lot of time with saw in and out of local mechanic trying to find problem. This saw will not start unless put on half choke every time.
