  1. Finding it hard to write this without getting myself in trouble from the mods :cussing:

The amount of training these guys put themselves through and the ruthless selection processes, the seat races, the ergo tests, the 4.30am winter morning rows. What a brilliant race until that ... "plonker" ... got involved.

As much as I support Cambridge and have raced many times on their waters, its a truely ugly way to win

Best wishes to Alex Woods for a speedy recovery

BBC Sport - Boat Race: Swimmer halts contest, bowman collapses at finish line

    Agreed :thumbup1:

  2. All that felling and cross-cutting by hand...just shows what an innovation the petrol chainsaw was! and the timber hauler looks like a model T Ford on skis..

Yep, the chainsaw was a great invention, but, those guys still got the job done!

Not to many obesity problems neither despite having 4 cooked meals a day, :laugh1:

  3. Derek aka Rovers 90 popped over yesterday to see me.Were busy lambing 600 ewes at the moment. As were stood talking a ewe decided to lamb so i went over to see if it was ok it was.So i had a look at what sex it was its a male so i named it after Derek. We'll see how Derek manages through life!!!Was good to see him anyway & im sure he went home like a proud father!!

Ahh, but what will Derek think when he has one of them rubber bands popped round his knackers, and he gets covered in mint sauce in a few months time.

  4. Nothing to do with trees or arb, but just see how they moved wheat off a high plateau, fantastic.

  5. Picked first wild food of the season yesterday.

Got the wood fired pizza oven going and had wild garlic and oyster (branched mi thinks) mushroom pizza. Just base, olive oil and the above.

    Anyone else foraging?

My horses are, they are going mad for the wild garlic at the moment, field runs alongside a river and every morning they have a heavy garlic breath. :001_smile:

  6. Blink and you'll miss the action part, the missus did'nt realise that when I walk away the action is about to start. She had missed the first one, hence my comment.

  7. Is that the Swedish one that Marcus Vanstone and that John Bunce used to use?

SJM, not sure if thats the same as theirs. Someone did tell me, that Marcus Vanstones weighed far too much unladen. Mine can be pushed around on the level no problem. Mine has they advantage of being able to connect to a 50mm tow hitch so can be pulled by anything suitable.

  8. There are some new laws or possibly guidelines coming in soon, I am not sure which but I do know things are altering.

We have an operators license for our HGV's and I know haulage firms have to have CPC as well. We have got around this in the past because I do not employ anyone as a driver although driving is part of their daily routine, I emply arborist's. However, the guy who does our training is telling me that is no longer the case, if you drive a HGV or employ people who do then you have got have CPC Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) | Driver Training | RoSPA

    Thoughts?.

I'm told anyone who has a vocational licence must do 35hrs of training every five yrs, if you don't do it, license will be revoked. It's rubbish really, because there is nothing to say you have to do the various modules, you could attend the drivers hours module five times and there's your 35hrs, ridiculous.
