  1. How about one of the kubota rtv is handy having the back area...

     

    It could be a possibility. I have an old hilux but find it a bit big for squeezing through gaps etc. I like the idea of seeing the tow ball under the hitch or being able to pull the quad into place but maybe a large quad is too heavy to pull about ? I have up to 16 trailers at times although I think I am down to about 6 at the moment.

  2. I have about 1 acre of house and yard. My Westwood ride on has given up. I had a bit too much mud for it this time of year and am thinking of a quad. I would like to move my trailers around one of which is 16 ft.

    I am a bit short on space so tight turning circle is a must.

    I want to move half a dozen dustbins full of saw dust around several times a day as well as general tidying up.

    Part of the ground is grassed garden so low ground pressure would be good.

    I fancy buying something nice 2-£3000 rather than buying half dead scrap to compliment the rest of my kit.

    Should I look for Honda and if so are the later automatics ok or should I buy something older an manual. Sorry for so many questions but I know nothing about quads

  3. I tow 2 x 1 tonne pallets of pellets on my IFWs fairly often with a Defender 90, you certainly know you have got it behind you. Like to get it onto the motorway and toddle along at about 50mph, pain in the backside for the HGVs but dare not drive it any faster.

    I found my disco 2 happy with 2500kg it could do 3500kg but the Amazon does it with ease. A 110 with 16 ft trailer would probably feel more stable.

  4. I think processors have a hard life and as the hours go on they suffer more breakdowns. If you are getting through lots of belts may be worth checking wear on the pulleys and try and de glaze them possibly hyd relief valve on splitter set too high. I think most processors are designed to run on straight pine so cope nicely with beech but oak and elm waste is pushing the boundries.

  5. I had a Hakki pilki 2x a few years ago which would be 1/2 to 2/3 rds the output of a x37. With nice 8 in timber I could do a cu metre in 20 minutes. Bent hard knotty stuff or 3 in sticks and a metre could take 1 hr 20 minutes. Things that help are a good nippy loader and a good load deck. I think the most we did was 16 cu metres in 6 hrs inc lunch but we had to deal with thick mud and basic log deck and old temperamental processor. Get things organised on firm ground with the right kit.

  6. If your engine is knackered and has low compression easy start is ok. If you have a good engine easy start is the best way to knacker it because it removes material from the top edges of your piston rings. Engines don't get addicted to it the stuff finishes them of then you have no choice but to use it. Does the merc not have a small glow start unit in the inlet manifold. Perkins normally have one with a fuel line attached when the unit packs up they are a pig to start in the frost. I think I have a new spare one in the office for our 525 May be worth drilling and tapping and fitting one.

  7. My free range locally produced 800 yards down the road goose only cost £20 then again I only wanted a little 5 pounder & I have been involved with it's welfare from the time it was a gosling right up to the day it got a broken neck.

    I do a lot of work on the smallholding it was produced on & look after the place while the owners are away so I get preferential rates on any meat I buy from them in addition to knowing exactly what the welfare standards are for the animals they keep.

     

    I think I left it a bit close to Christmas to do all that to strike a deal on a cheap goose. Looks like i am off to lidos as well :biggrin:

  8. I had 200, 300 discos got a td5 and thought it would be a disaster but 4 years of towing it behaved well and even limped home when it fell to bits. I skipped the d3 and waited for them to sort out the problems . Bought a d4 what a disaster its in a league of its own ie first division footballers ride. So many inferior expensive parts to fail early. Fantastic drive you will fall in love with but constant problems and huge repair bills. In this line of work you could stay indoors and show more profit. The Amazon uses the same amount of fuel and will tow to 250k without too many problems.

    Andy is a friend who helped with logs and still does a bit of kindling for us. Sorry we Never had a chance for a proper chat evening seemed to fly by and I was not even drinking.

  10. Believe it or not keep off the cider. Other alcohol seems ok. Had problems with my knees since 14 grew a bit too quick I think. Carry kneeling pads avoid running but cross trainer ok and helps. Cod liver oil well worth a go

  11. Not defending the daft price the eBay seller is asking for, but you get all manner of American firewood processors that will take 3ft diameter material. I you can get the poplar back to the yard for £25 a tonne, you've halved your material costs compared to standard hardwood. It also takes about 3 months to dry (I've been doing most of my heating so far this winter with poplar) so capital is tied up for far less time.

     

    I think as supply starts to be squeezed (which given that figures of £55/t have been suggested for standard hardwood mix delivered in) producers might have to start processing other materials. Of course it comes back to educating the customer though....

     

    I found with pop some days its as good as beech and other days a bit disappointing never worked out if it was different batches or effects of temp and weather on chimney

  12. Good to meet everyone this year missed it last. Andy said he is sorry for calling teepete Pete all night when he is called Terry. Andy is a friend and not my brother :biggrin:

     

    Would it be worth me dragging a big battered gas barbecue range with rotisserie next year. We could get 3 big chickens on and a dozen or so steaks. May be some fair ground rides a couple of hot tubs,dancing girls :001_rolleyes: could use the bbc in the skittle alley if it's raining could not be more smokey :biggrin:

    looking for a family car with 7 seats.

    Unless it tows or tips I have little knowledge of 'cars'

     

    as a landy fan it pains me to say it but I don't want to go down the discovery route

    After my disco experience that last sentence is full of wisdom and insight follow your instincts and save yourself a possible repair of 12k a year. Buying anything other than a land rover will extend your life by years and save you from deep depression and dispare :biggrin: my Citroen Navarra was no where near as bad but not great either. My landcrusiers and hilux just clock the miles up and never give a moments bother if I was to go elsewhere it would feel like I was bending over and asking for it.

    May be a medal for collecting the most amount of correct info and still not believing it :biggrin:

     

    I had a disco 4 van recently and cant remember what I concluded but I think it was light goods on the tax disc so should be 50 on a dual but then again it is multi purpose and car derived. It did not really matter as it spent 99% of the time on a ramp with me driving their 306 which can do 60 mph on a dual.

     

    Anyone else bought an expensive Landrover and ended up driving round in French crap
