  7. looks like the prickets need thinning out a bit. it wont be long before they start to split before the rut. i would get on top of them now if i were you while they are grouped. let me know how you get on. happy shooting
  8. .243 for deer. i have permission in dorset and shoot sika and roe, also some roe stalking in somerset
  9. totally agree, good luck with the clear-up
  10. me too many years ago with cannington college on my chainsaw course. saw some shocking felling cuts including mine. we all have to start somewhere though
  11. nice pic. sorry havnt seen it before as ive just signed up. dismantled a smaller beech with fire damage myself but not to this extent. how far did the hollow go up the stem? looks to be an ideal bat habitat before the fire. nice job
  12. sound wood on the outside but not much for the hinge. this was a roadside tree and had to come down due to the results of the picus tests. if it was to be stood in the middle of a field or in a woodland it would still be standing and would be for years to come
  13. on every crane job that i have been on its the norm to ride the crane hook as long as the driver is ok with it. i will always ride the hook with a cambium saver and my climbing rope attatched to this and a second anchor point with a wire core strop.
  14. suprisingly the hinge held, i half expected it to come over as soon as the saw tickled it
  15. the tree was 60ft max but the crown had severe dieback for obvious reasons. not alot of life left in the old girl. the tree was located near bere regis so not too far from wimborne
  16. myself - dismantled crown (carefully!) and felled the stem
