  1. "Read my mind, I did say to her why not fell and replant, the things only 15 years old, problem will only get worse blah blah. she was having non of it. loves the tree in all its hairyness! Ive told her i'll be back!"

You will be looking after that tree for years to come, preventing it from out growing its environment, it will earn you respect, experience and maybe a few pounds. It will teach you about tree biology and reactions to pruning.

It will be a habitat for birds, bats, insects, lichens, mosses and fungi.

Why offer to fell it, when you can manage it?

    Keep up the high standard!

Thanks Doug. Hadn't really looked at it from that angle, I suppose your right. Its the only thing that diffrentiates her property from every other in her concrete jungle of an estate. Its a nice tree with no defects etc. I guess it will be nice to really look at the work ive done in the years to come. Thanks for your input buddy:thumbup1:

  2. I cant see why your disapointed with the final job!

Like all other comments looks really good

Shows that you have gotten out there to all the ends and fiddly bits:

Thanks mate, just thought it was a bit more fitting to say I wasnt massively happy, instead of "hey look at this Sh*t hot reduction ive done on a small tree for my cousin, im the best and ive only been doing this 18 months!" which gets said all to often I think. Thanks for the words mate, means alot coming from experienced proffessionals. (or whatever you lot are:001_tt2:)

Get used to it mate.....'cause that's 90% of arb work! Nice reduction on the Cedar though. :

I hope not buddy, Ive loved every minute so far. Thanks for the comments:thumbup1:

Nice job Matt and I applaud your efforts.

Cant help but feel the owners should have had the balls to cull the thing and put it out of its misery. Nice tree, wrong location – these belong in parks, cemeteries and manor house front lawns. Fair-play though Matt, hope you gave them your number – you’ll be doing a little repeat business in the coming years.

    Thanks John.

Read my mind, I did say to her why not fell and replant, the things only 15 years old, problem will only get worse blah blah. she was having non of it. loves the tree in all its hairyness! Ive told her i'll be back!

  3. Your going to have a long and productive career lad, if your eyes in at 17 and you get some big wood in before too long youll be well on your way. I would employ you any day of the week.

Thanks for the kind words mate. Your more than welcome to employ me!:laugh1: Unfortunately un-employed atm. But, saying that im being given a few days climbing by a local guy for the rest of the week. really by the book bloke. I just hope it goes well.

Thanks for the positive comments everybody:biggrin:

  4. Did this little reduction for someone in my family the other day, never worked on one of these before. What do you guys think? Im not massively happy with the shape, but it was to a relaxed spec. I think I could of done worse though, please voice your opinions:thumbup:

    Matt.

  5. Talking of cord...Anyone tried new england Therma sheild?

    looks worth a try.

Yeah, I do like it. I used it for a little while when I bought a few meters when it was half price at the open, at merrist wood last year. Proper good durability, grips reliably, heats up quite a bit though. But I think its definetly worth a go, I only stopped using it because of its cost, and that,I,personally think that there are plenty of other cords on the market that work just as well.

Give it a go though mate!

  6. yer had interview with mike allen today well hardly a interview, soon as he saw me he remembered me and wanted me go on the course lol. guess ill be seeing you lot round easton soon then

  7.

    hi all

just had my interview for getting on the RFS theory course all went well they accepted me so start that in september :thumbup1: but my question is after ive got the RFS what would be the next step in qualifications?

    many thanks

    james

    Nice one mate:thumbup1:

Is that going to be with Mike Allen/Dave Gillet I take it?

As for further quals I dont think there is one between level 3(FD, RFS, NVQ3) and Foundation degree, not locally anyway. But I may be mistaken.

Good luck with the rfs mate!

  8. I think the sugoi is bang on for removals because you can just go mental with it, Natanoko is the one for pruning though. Zubat is good, Ive got one, nice for pruning but crap when it comes to putting in gobs n the like as it doesnt cut in a straight line obviously. They are all good though :)
