  1. Let me make this clear. This court case is being held in a court two hours away from my place, 450 miles in my vehicle plus three days lost work. Do you think I should suck that up?

The case itself involves over a £100,000 claim that COULD hinge on my evidence as I'm the only person that was on the job in question from start to finish.

Heaven forbid that a main contractor could need a subbie more than a subbie could need a main contractor.

    You are deluded Billy.

Unless your completely broke and living from hand to mouth, which from your other posts I assume is not the case. The decision to take the three days off and a bit of travel (only a few hundred quid) on the chin in the short term to maintain a good relationship with a contractor and the long term revenue from them seems a simple one. If I were deluded and it was all so simple you wouldn't be on here asking advice, would you ?

This was one of our latest deliveries on Friday, a little different. This one is being used to process mostly pallets & other waste wood but can be used on stumps, logs, railway sleepers, green waste as well as aluminium, cars etc.

Ta the sword machine its feeding into in the last picture do?

  3. Don't know about 7.5 but my 18t does around 10mpg from my rough calculations, fill it about once a month which saves a lot of time. Body size is 4x2.3x2 so overall width is about 2.5 with mirrors. It will fit most places with chipper in tow. We have 10 week checks usually around £100.

MOTs are fairly painless as long as your checks and maintenance have honestly been done through the year. Tax for mine is £650.00, considerably more than a 7.5t.

Running costs are very reasonable, not expensive, tyres last a very long time as long as they don't get cut etc.

  4. I didn't get a reply when I asked anybody about the age limit on the tests, it tends to be academic but my C1+E is valid for a little while yet till I'm 70, I think the +E as a result of a C+E test will be limited by medical??

Think mine expires in 2032 and do them last year and year before I'll be about 44 by then, I thought the medical was needed again at 50 though

  5. HGV1 is now C + E so two tests isn't it?

    I.

Yes, category C to drive a rigid lorry, C+E to add a trailer entitlement this will give you a +E on any other license you hold or get in the future too if you don't have it already I.e B+E, D+E etc

  6. Hello,

I've recently put my pre-1997 licence in to be exchanged for a French version.

It will be 2 months before I recieve my new licence.

I 'had' the 7.5t+trailer gross train weight 12t

However, I now read that the U.K licence has been downgraded to 7.5t plus 750kg trailer GTW of 850kg

Not good news seeing as I have a 7.5t arriving in a few weeks plus a 1250kg chipper on order PLUS I tow a 3.5t trailer too so 11t GTW.

When did this change in the licence occur?

I last renewed my U.K licence in 2010.

So do I now require a test for a larger trailer OR my HGV tickets...?

That's 1200euros here plus a week out of work.

    Ty

It has been the case here for quite a while that then old licenses have a restricted train weight. need to take the test to get up to full weight so C1+E or C+E and gain all 4 categories.

  7. Hi~ Now registered as Company is now paying by CIS only. Luckily now getting work from other firms :001_smile

Thanks for help:thumbup1: Just got to get them to pay promptly now:thumbdown:

What's the problem, as long as you get the tax voucher off them your just paying the tax a bit sooner, not a major issue really?

  8. Im viewing potential vehicles next week looking towards 18t with timber grab hiab as for chipper it will be a vermeer bc2100xl if figures are viable the operators licence is sorted as is an operating base with bulk storage for chip Id like to get this off the ground but the investment is stacking up :blushing:

If your buying it all just to do it, I would think extremely carefully about it. Unless you're also going to use the gear for your own jobs or have lots of timber haulage work lined up between helping arbs its a bit dodgy....and an 18t won't be very competitive hauling timber.
