I think that's just dropping if he's doing it for skyline.
I figured they'd probably be extracting to a harvester and felling and snedding 200 would be a good daily figure

The going rate around here is 150 quid a day which isn't too bad, I have been offered 175 a day by one contractor for felling for a skyline which is bloody good and been offered 80 to 100 a day by another contractor for brashing and felling oversized which is a joke! You would be on less than minimum wage by the time you paid your expenses [emoji107][emoji107]. I would fell around 200 trees a day for the 175 a day skyline contractor, so worked very hard for the money!
200/day? Is that just dropping them or dropping and snedding?

The rear handle and the main body of the saw also look to be different shades of orange. Could it be a cut and shut job?

The owner of the tree is laible for the removal of the tree and any damages caused by it.

You need to know the mean Basal area (BA), BA/Ha and as Dave said the yield class helps.

Not sure what size I am around 36" waist 32" leg whatever that works out as. Do they actually make class 1 any more as I cant find any on the net anywhere?

Ive been thinking about the possibility of planting cricket bat willows along a stream running through some of our grassland. Any advice about site requirements etc?

Ill have a word at work tomorrow as we are just up the road we may be able to take someone a day/week to help me out. Not necessrily purely arb but plenty of tree/hedge/woodland work. Do they have NPTC certificates?

sorry for the delay in replying ive been on my hols and just got back. Are you the famous Mr Mole of Gransfors axe fame? if it is how ya doing these days? i remember well the days of the cuning mr Fox who has now moved on to greater things, just like yourself gone but never to be forgotten.

It certainly is me Dave. Im actually working just up the road from you as forester on the lockwwod estate at scampton and cammeringham. I will have to pop in sometime for a catch up should be around that way soon as we manage hoods farm at grange de lings

the forestry commission have carried out a lot of research on this subject. A useful document they have published can be found here:

We manage the farmland around Grange de lings and I've noticed a few in the hedgerows up there. All still in good health. Pretty much all roadside if you want to go take a look.
