  1. Hi, yes i have briefly used the Haddon Lumbermaker, and also a copy of that made in the UK- they can work fairly well, depending on if there is any slack in the bar clamp rod, and other manufacturing accuracy. The Haddon we used on a few sections of oak, and I was surprised at the accuracy of the cuts. Get the Yank one if you can, it's possibly worth the extra money

  2. I get hay fever although this year so far very mild. Hay fever brings a touch of asthma. But what really brings on shocking asthma is dogs or rabbits jumping over me that have been laying in hay.

Damp or any sort of wood rot in the house and I am up the hospital on a nebuliser. Not had a problem for a few years at all.

The other thing that can kick it off is when the temperature is around 14 deg and damp.

I am no doctor but your problem sounds more asthma than hay fever steve although the hay fever may be bringing it on. You could carry a blue and brown puffer like my self but not actually need it for years.

I agree, I had fairly late (20's) onset of asthma, had hay fever come on strong at a similar age and a combo of the two can be a bit of a problem. See a doctor and make sure you know what needs dealing with, I reckon?

  3. The other half has about 20 horses, more saddles than i can keep track of and horse jackets by the dozen. If i buy another saw (as in, a total of 3 or 4 in all), it's "why do you need another one??"

Best policy is, just buy Pfanners and say nothing till the credit card bill comes up

  4. A mate had a hilux surf, with the rear seats removed, made a good van alternative

I have had over half a dozen of the later Surfs, if you get an SSRG spec Gen 3 for under or around 2K (they are out there), you won't get a better, smoother or punchier 3 litre 5 door 4x4, full stop- for that money. They really are superb; last one we had summer just past, got us back to Kent from Sidmouth on about £40 ish. Not bad, for Land Cruiser quality

  5. Urgh!

Where is the torque going to come from?

The fly wheel is so small.

I imagine that it is tempting but I think such a small machine would be a waste of cash.

    Well, thats my shilling worth.

    Ty

I used a Husqvarna SG13 pedestrian machine today, hired to bust out 4 connys up to 18", and a 15" apple stump, it coped admirably and all done and dusted in a sensible time frame. Nothing wrong with low brake horse machines, if the teeth are sharp. If you only do a few stumps a month, why have a pricey machine sitting in the workshop gathering dust?

  6. In fact PM me if you want any specific suggestions, if i ever get the time I'm trying to get a book together based on trying to keep in good nick mentally and physically in middle age. You need to keep your diet good and don't ignore the idea of taking vits as somebody else has just suggested.

  7. Exercize works for me.Still get down sometimes, same as you mate no reason.comes and goes.

I really dont think happy pills help either.

Im more of an highs and lows though but only thing that helps me with the lows is the mountains or lifting weights at the gym.

Im pretty sure ive some sort of ptsd from my military days but im not sure.

I know this probably wont help you any but dont suffer alone.

Sometimes it helps to speak to a professional.

    Dont suffer alone mate

I agree with this, 100%- anybody suggesting more exercise to a tree surgeon to deal with depression and he's probably thinking "are you bloody mad??", but often i go running (ideally on rural bridleways etc), after work, and it's a totally different thing to work related exertion. They reckon cold water swimming works fantastically well too, endorphin effects and so on wipe the floor with depressive states. I'm convinced the right type of exercise could potentially help the vast majority of cases, though to be realistic there is a difference between "help" and "cure". I've had a few bad states of the blues in the past and i wish somebody had suggested a natural fix then. You'll get through it :thumbup1:

  8. I have seen an ad seeking the return of the dog today, I can't recall which publication. Dog theft is reaching ridiculous levels in Kent especially, they are stealing just about any smaller or medium breed, working dogs or otherwise. Terribly sad, the pond life who nick them can't really go much lower

  9. Opposite the entrance of the yard we used to rent, a rotten limb of willow about 8 inches thick (so not huge exactly)had fallen in the road, large enough to cause a major obstruction on a busy high speed b road, but easy enough to clear with a chainsaw in 5 minutes. I thought I'd call the Highways Agency just to be legit, and said i have a chainsaw ticket and insurance, "would you like me to clear it- I'm not after money, but there is going to be an accident if I don't?" the repsonse was, no don't worry we will send someone to clear it asap. About a day and a half later...a bloke in a HA van with a bow saw turned up. No traffic cones or signs, naff all else. Official procedure transcends common sense yet again

  10. disagree on selling I have 3 competitors within 20 miles all doing 4m3 around £250 and I can still sell my 1m3 bags at £120, quality is more important to many over price, our region is also swamped with people selling logs but part timers mostly don't do the work to get a quality product

3 competitors within 20 miles...?Try multiplying that by at least 10 and you might be getting close to what there is locally to me. The (Kent) Wealden free magazine has about 20 log adverts weekly, alone. That's without random farmers, smallholders and woodland owners etc., new signs every other day at the roadside. Competiton is seriously strong

  11. One thing worth looking at is the level of deformation in secondhand ones , in my experience they can be a bit of false economy when they get to a certain point .

Nice new rigid sided bags hold exactly their designed volume , stretched baggy old bags wont be long taking 5 or 10 Quids extra worth of timber on you .....

Yes, you are quite right- I'm ordering some new, as per the ebay link earlier in the thread.

  12. If anybody has any advice on Razor burn(rash) on knows of any potions that will farm it please inform me.

I like having 0 stubble but it's so bad I use a beard trimmer now as can't put up with the burn and it looks awful.

Try shaving at night and rub olive oil in (so you don't look too greasy) after,

a lot of chemical based stuff just aggravates razor burn. If you want to be fancy put a few drops of proper sandalwood oil in and mix it

  13. There's a user on here called rye oil I think who sometimes advertises used bulk bags. do a search and see if you can find the thread. From memory he was down your way, but I consider anything south of Lincoln "down your way".

    Tom

Yeah i know Jonn? Sold him some logs a few weeks back, but he's run out?
