  1. Lowa mountain, patrol or combat depending on your needs,i personally have worn mountain gtx for 15 years, wouldnt wear anything else.....expensive but i believe with some things you get what you pay for.I have worn the same pair for nearly 15 years, had them resoled after about 10 years for about 60 quid, should get another 5 years out of them so 20 years for about 200 quid...absolute bargain in my book ,hate to admit it but the Germans know how to make a good boot :adore:

Others may differ as it is always a personal choice

  2. Hi all, I am still looking for definitive re. Makita/Dolmar pistons. I just bought a 7900 with problems...can't decipher the millimetres....is it 50mm for 6400, 52 for 7300 and 54 for 7900?

Also has anyone found a UK supplier for heavy duty air filter kits for these saws? As per Baileys US??

    Thanks,

    Marty

Cant help with the air filter info, but fairly sure its 52mm for the 7900,i have bought big bore after market kits and they are 54mm,hope this helps

    Regards

  3. Beautiful Owl....nice picture

Yeah they are amazing birds, been blessing us with his prescence for a while now......I cant take credit for the pic...it was taken automatically with a trail cam :thumbup1:

Got some awesome video clips of him as well :thumbup1: :thumbup1:

  4. I think all the big makes like Dewalt, Makita, Hitatchi, Bosch etc do "diy grade" specials , usually to be sold in screwfix etc on a deal at about £100 or so.

I've got an 18v li-on Hitatchi drill, again cost about £100, it does my fine for what I need, but it was stamped on the box "made in PRC"

Whereas I've got some other proper Hitatchi powertools, made in Japan, and they are in a different league :biggrin:

I guess i am ok then!!

  5. I see a hitachi with two lith ion bats for £100 in screw fix catalogue stood out as a bargain if they are any good. I need a new cordless give my Panasonic a bit of a poor review on this thread thinking it was just over 5 years old but looked this week and it 11 years old so its done good.

I would check the specs of the ones at screwfix,as I mentioned earlier im fairly sure they are the diy ones and the batteries are usually lower amps

Have a look at the ones on ffx website and compare.

  6. Hey Mr T, not seen you about for ages!

I use Makita these days, find them good enough. I've also got an old Bosch, must be 12+ years old, it's so good that i got new batteries for it a couple of times.

Mate of mine uses the Hitachi cordless drills he swears by them and they are a lot lighter than most of the other makes.

    Hey Mr E!!

Yeah not been on a lot :blushing:

  7. I remember looking at Hitachi drills maybe 15-20yrs ago at a dealers , they were great quality but much dearer than Bosch or Makita . Now I think they are cheaper if anything . They have either gone downmarket or are a real bargain .

After many years of cheap screwfix cordless drills and a couple of Erbauers I finally treated myself to a Hitachi 18v with two 5 ah lithium Li on batteries from ffx,had it about a year now and not done a massive amount of work, but I have to say mega impressed :001_smile:

Also it was the high torque spec one....im fairly sure some of the ones they have cheap at screwfix are not as high spec and are meant for light diy use.

Dont know if it will last. ...time will tell.

  8. If you employ a proper cabinet maker, stipulate the timber you like, don't get it painted... That's just for crap timber , cheaply made or vintage stuff {still crap.}that's been painted by an " I saw you coming" shop, designer craftsman or other conmen.

Ha Ha thats awesome
