I know by reading the yellow forum there is a few carvers make their own bars from old bars, and repair there old ones.

From what I gather you need the solid ones not split and joined ones, there is a few engineering factories and a blacksmiths near me so I should check them out somtime.

Maybe I could shorten a one from the back, never thought of that'

The Makita file sander is great, I have the black and decker version much cheaper but its crap, and I will bury the makita as soon as I can.
