I love the chainsaw music.

I have been working on getting CE approval on our range so we can sell into europe and the UK. CE is not the standard, it is a common mark that shows that the product conforms to the standard, in the case of rope this can be EN1891 or Uiaa etc etc.

To make the claim that you meet a standard you have to have the rope tesed in a certificed lab. They will then give you a cert that show your product meets the standard which you can then claim as a manufacturer. CE conformity is a system that makes sure that subsiquent batches of the same rope are made in a way which follows a strict specification to ensure that each and every rope meets that standard. This insures that the 1 millionth,000,000 reel of rope is the same and will pass the same test as the 1st one.

To be honest this is hard stuff, we manufacture to a very strict set of specs and have ISO certification on our factory but to get CE approval you need to spend a whole heap of coin to some independant authority to get some paper work that tells you what you are currently doing is OK.

Frustrating and even worse there is no one down our end of the world so we need to work with a company in Europe who charge in Euro. Ooch.

Give AP a try Charlie, the problem is freight. It costs as much to send to the Uk as the cord itself. If you know someone coming over from OZ or NZ that would be your best bet.

As Jarnii said, he used it for 9 months, that is why it was developed. Normal prusic line would have been in the rope graveyard 6 months earlier.

DrewB is a good contact in NZ for some if you only need a few prusics, he can splice up for you as well.

That would make you feel better but will not get you your money!.

Minimise your loss, legal action, time, etc etc will cost you more than the job, Dean will say it is on principle and he would be right. You have to decide if you being right and proving it is worth more than the Job.

Personally I think you are best giving them a final notice in writing stating you will pass the matter over to a debt collector or small claims hoping he will cough up, make sure you state the facts. If you don't get a response send another letter advising you will be taking action and decide then if you walk away or talk it further.

At the end of the day it is business and business is money. Take the emotion out of it and learn from this even though it will leave a bad taste in your mouth for a while.

This is a slilly question I know but why not plant (Transplant) trees? I know they grow fast but surely you would get 3-4 years if maintained before you would need to replace.

This seams unique as we don't tend to do this in NZ. Just the house trees you by from the stalls 2 weeks before xmas.

That looks very much like one of my old display samples. I put a splice in a piece of Amor Pruss when I was practicing one day, we had no whipping twine in the office so used some standard black braid to finish off and tried to follow the Samson instructions to see what it was like. It did look a bit better than this at the time but maybe I didn't get it tight enough and should have used the waxed twine.

I recall some chaps coming into the office and I gave them some shorts of AP that I had laying around. I am pretty sure I gave them one of the demo bits with the splice. I did tell them to chop it off as it didn't look that flash. The splice was done correctly so will be save however they were going to knot their prussic anyway as the splice was only in one end. (Maybe I should have chopped it off myself)

If this is the same bit of rope and it does look like it it was not spliced for them and they did not pay me for it.. (would you)

I'm not an expert splicer by a long shot and don't splice for other people however I like many Aborists "give it ago" and follow instructions from web sites etc.

I was shown how to splice by an expert who we engauge to do our splicing if customers request it but unless like Drew you do them all the time it is hard to perfect the art and present the sort of finish Drew does, leave the commerical splicing to these guys.

We had a farmer over here find some guys tring to steel his truck, he fired a warning shot from hs house as they were heading down the farm (About 500m) problemi was he hit one of them in the back of the head.All hell broke loose.

Another Farmer found some guys trying to load his 4x4 bike into the back of a van, he took to the van with a 066 amazing what a saw will do to a van, tyres seats etc. The guys tookoff running and there van was written off!

I think that tought them a lessn!!

Blue sky day in Canterbury today.

The pic is from Mt Hutt Ski field looking back down to Chritchurch in the distance.

Takes about 1 1/2 hours to get here from my house so if you wake up with a day like 2 day off you go........

I think you will find that it has a coating of some sort on the cover fibres, this may be a water based urathene, not sure what advantage it would give but does hold the rope together when splicing.

Looks like she has got the case of beer on her side though... That can't be good.

Tenex is a 12 strand rope if I'm not mistaken.

You should do a locked Brummell with about 1-1 1/2 fid lengths or 240mm approx.

Jamie may have done splices on this before and can be more acurate than me.

i had a giant wood wasp come out a privet hedge i was cutting today scared the hell out of me, nearly fell of my ladder, it was huge and making a lot of noise, i couldnt decide if it was a hornet to start with so took evasive action with the rake and got it pinned down, so i could see it better, fantastic little beastie

We have compiled a good reference library of splicing videos as well which you might like to check out.

I find it much easier to see how a splice is done rather than follow written instructions.

Try $100,000 for one log. this stuff has been sitting at the bottom of a big dark lake for thousands of years, I have seen some and it is amazing timber.

At least his tool box got cleaned out and now would be a good time to do an under truck service.

On the first vid, they would need a crane to lift the bit that broke off..... That would have to be 300-400kg at least. Amazing how it bouned like it weighted nothing at all
