    Ascenders

I am looking at all types of ascenders commonly used in the industry, and i'm trying to give a fair review of there uses. I personally am not keen unless they are backed up, i prefer a klemhiest or prussick if i'm using an access line. Thanks for all your comments much appreciated

    Ascenders

Hi I've got to give a presentation on ascenders and the pro's and cons of the devices we use in the industry. If anyone has anything they think would be useful comments, photo's or stories please contact me. I would be interested to hear peoples views as i thing if used correctly they are a great labour saving device but there are pit falls that inexperienced climbers fall in to literally. So if you have any comments they would be greatfully recieved. Ta
  6. im in my 1st year of Bsc at myerscough and wondering what the hell im doing!! Miss the job and miss trees!!! But i think i've passed the first semester, panicing about dissertation already.
  7. i wish i'd known about this before i moved up north to do a degree!!
  8. That is one of the funniest and scariest things ive seen in a long time!
  9. Hey I'm off to myerscough to start the foundation degree and the book they have recomended is one i've never heard of and i was wondering if anyones come accrss it and what you think. It is 'Arboriculture:Intergrated management of landscape trees, shrubs and vines.' As far as i can tell it's an american text book and i'm having problems sourcing it and as any arb book it costs a fair wack, so i want to know what it's like? Ta
  10. It started out with his new book stuff, in alot of detail then he went onto new stuff he's working on at the moment. I think it was worth the money definately helped to understand wheres he's coming from and how it relates to our everyday work i.e. VTA... He's completey mad which in a strange way also helped!!!
  11. to be honest i'm not sure as my boss paid for it but i think they start from around £100! I know his one day courses are about £400, but he's a genius so worth every penny!
  12. Zubat i like the curved blade it seems to make cutting quicker and easier
  13. very technical but interesting all the same it took me a few days to digest it but definatly worth the money!
  14. Went to the Clause Mattheck lecture yesterday, it was brilliant. Made it easier to understand some of the more techniqual stuff in his books. Anyone else go?

  17. I think that if it can even slightly educate the public or spark interest in trees then its got to be a good thing! I'm fed up of hearing 'I like trees but...'
  18. We are covered by the ISA insurance as we have kind of teamed up with them to make our lives easier. That would be great if we could use your trees, thanks for the offer

    Slow cooker

  20. It was pretty good those guy's make me laugh! Is this the new series or are they repeats, i missed most of the last series!
  21. Hey How you all doing? Just wanted to let any women know that we are holding the second climbing weekend designed to encourage women to get into the industry, help those starting out and discuss climbing techniques and have some fun! So if you know anyone who maybe interested send them my way. We have got a date provisionally of 1st to 3rd August, as yet we don't have a location so any ideas gratefully recieved (estate or woodland). Hope to hear from you soon!
  22. Hey I did the NVQ level 2 its ok but it depends what your after it's very practical and i found i wasn't learning enough about tree's!! It's good if you have no experience at all and want to get a taste of all the different aspects of the job. Also most colleges include the 30 and 31 training and sometimes the assesment as part of the course. The other good thing is the work placement so you earn and learn at the same time, always a bonus. good luck
