  3. Very nice Bob.

No disrespect, but that's the last view I would have expected of the middle of Salford, especially from what I've been told.

How the Sally Reds fairing these days.

    .

As with most inner city areas there are good places and bad this is one of the better its my job to keep them looking good and keeping then safe. Not a bad job really got a few problem areas but im sorting then out slowly. Got to take the good with the bad i suppose

makes it all worth while and thank the lord old mighty that i dont have to where a suit, work in an office all day or sit in front of a computer till my eyes bleed hey ?

Who would of thought all this bang smack in the middle of Salford :001_cool:

  6. We were low on staff or he would of gone earlier but he was funny and he probably would of got a job laying tarmac lol! should of gone sooner but he was fresh off the course and you gotta give people a chance. im a little soft on trainees i know! the spikes was funny though :scared1:

  7. i would of fired him and his mate reported in risk assessment log book a near death or severe injury occurrence then reported it to the hse and preserved the scene for inspection by them.then wrote a stern letter to the college telling them wot a rubbish job they were doing of training them. i would of forced them both to stand by a board with a letter of apology to anybody who may of been walking past written by hand. then i would of telephoned the there mothers to say they have not lived up to there expectations and should be disowned by the family.

firm but fair that wot i say

....... seriously though it sounds like you were a tad to quick to fire. though you haven't really give much background to the chap.

  8. if you look at your cutter there is an end of life mark i use this as a guide to the angle of sharpening as i don't use a guide yep i know its a bad habit but its stuck but i can tell if im out on the angles

practice makes perfect lots and lots of it

    get yourself comfortable

gloves always wear them when filing or be prepared for bloody knuckles.

don't let somebody on your team who regularly grounds out your saw use it

be prepared to spend time on your saw sharpening it will save you time later in the day and ease stress of constant cutting almost makes it fun

  9. for me too it fire jack spray on the affected region (do not use before going to bed you understand or you will get a rude awakening as i found out a couple of years ago with my gonads on fire :scared1:) and ibuprofen works a treat

  10. I'm good for about 90 feet by hand, so I'v never really felt the need for a BS. Great for rainforest canopy access though!

To get good at hand throwing, you need to pick a technique you are comfortable with, and keep practising until you are good enough.

Sometimes I get the anchor I want first throw, sometimes it takes half an hour, but persistance always pays off. I love using it for setting pulling lines and rigging blocks, saves a lot of effort and time, and I'v set some pull lines in some horrible dead trees that I wouldnt have enjoyed climbing.

yeh me too but probably not the tree im trying to climb it goes every where except where its suppose too ive even thought of aiming for a different tree to get it up the one im after lol .

  11. Watching what the climber is doing is high on the list along with common sense and spatial awareness.

here here, i was reducing a beech on sunday and there weather was really really bad, got down soaked, thought id done a good job till i looked from the side angle to the house and ive left a whole limb unreduced darn it and i asked how the tree look. customer seemed to be happy but the tree is on my way home and i see it every day. i know it goin to get right on my nerves im going to have to go back to the house some time soon and say "look sorry mate but you know i pruned your tree the other day well theres a bit i kinda left and its getting on me wick a little is it alright if i just get up it and whip it off before it drives me insane" hes either going to think im a complete nutter :confused1:
