  1. He was a nice man who laughed almost non-stop, he said that he wanted to take a breather but was afraid that greenpeace were lurking in the bushes and think that he was a beached whale!
  2. I did my first crane job today and I feel like telling everybody in the whole god damn wide world, i'm sure you've heard it all before how it feels on the body and the coolness of it but what I really loved is the QUIETNESS. This was simply one pick of a half a ton dead pine, two cuts and finish! JJG (if y'all remember him) got me to strap a video recorder about ten feet above the cut facing down and it looks awesome, I'll surely post it when it gets back to me. Here are three pics to start. CRANE SURGERY IS GREAT!!
  3. sorry shrek, I meant that who COULD do it. you know what I meant anyway huh.
  4. On a more serious note. If I was rescuer/groundy I would certainly take my responsibilities more seriously than the guys who are my life-savers. They can climb and they are rescue trained. That is minimum for me as a subby by the way, no trained AR then I walk. But look at skyhuck's avatar, who in the hell is gonna rush up there after he's inverted? So if it was me on the ground with a climbers life in my hands as it were I would have a rescue line installed with hitch or clamps on line and the harness sitting at the bottom of a tree. Simply repeat the process for two weeks and it starts to become natural. Just do it I say. Stuff the profit because it leads to nowhere in this context.
  5. I can not believe that there are no sleeping smileys! This was the next best thing Al. B O R I N G !
  6. As a contract climber who carries 5 million public and products liability it sounds like I would need to fork out quite a bit more if I became a LOLER inspector if I got professional indemnity? I've been economising you see. Thanks.
  7. Hey all you LOLER inspecters, what insurance do you carry for your checks?:001_smile:tanks.
  8. The unicender is one of those amazing pieces of kit that the Luddites will always deride. Anyone remember the prussik? That's right folks it's the 21st Century and things are a-changing in our industry. If you have the proactive mindset to keep up then you too can reap the rewards of advancement. I use the unicender for nearly all my work, it it adaptable and efficient, not just within the time restraints of commercial work, but ergonomically too. It's a wonder in aluminium. I highly recommend using one for a test. I will have one with me at Capel if anyone wants to have a look. The world is not flat. Rockin!!!
  9. J. Which way the push maketh yor eye brow raise? He heard moondog(courtesy of me) and like you his jaw fell fell agape in childlike wonder. he aint infamous like Phil Spector ... but...

  12. The Ash is on the main drag into Eastern Lodge, Little Eastern. The 28th March? I hope not as I'm away then, I'll have to pick your brains again if so.
  13. The eco-arb fairy must 'a heard my cry. From today... Big Oak we just passed by and had lunch under. Other is an Ash Monolith next to a road.

  16. On friday it couldn't pull through 2" goat willow with a shallow union...thats rubbish AND infuriating.
  17. Me and Guns were reminiscing about work in Hatfield Forest last summer. Good work, laughs and sunshine. I hate the long winter and this bleedin recession!
  18. What is the gap twixt blade and shearbar? Blades are changed weekly, hydraulic fluid looks fine, Mike and Steve have seen it. I'll try the rollers and speak to one of the lads about the hydraulic pressure relief valve. Anvil is OK and the blades set against the wear...I think it is 1mm on outside and 2mm on inside away from the anvil. Thanks. Steve, I am a subby, just trying to help out this gang, I have no idea what chipper they had before.
  19. Does anybody use this chipper? We are having problems with the gripping mechanism on the feed-wheels. The service guys are being a little bit vague but after checking they say that the springs are fine.
  20. Do you mean a web-site, Dave? Tell me more.
