  1. I've got a saw horse that takes 5-8 logs in it... As long or short as you want. Get a pickaroon to lift the logs without bending too far down. 18" light bar on a ms261. Jobs not perfect but a load better. I can put a link up to the saw horse... If you like

Used to watch him as a little kid, back in the day when the only thing his hand went up was a sock puppets backside.

The only reason we all watched was for Sarah Greene... You perverts!

  3. I won an internet competition from Volvo, a half day at Goodwood.... . First was being driven in a V70. Then they allowed me to drive in the same car... Then an arctic truck, with trailer, one lap! Then onto construction equipment playing around in sand in a dumper and excavator, then the eco bit was doing some land yachting...  Fab day!

Did you give intention of works to be carried out rather than apply ?

'my friend' applied for intention of works as the tree is in CA, through planning portal. There is no TPO, yet, just a letter of objection to the felling from the council. Due to do the works this Tuesday, or not!

I recently started using a Diamond Wheel in the bench grinder!

They are not cheap, but it has transformed the process of sharpening teeth to whole new level! No more horrible green dust and the wheel lasts up to 20 times as long! I've done hundreds now and I'm still on my first wheel.

Not only that, it does them in a fraction of the time and they are sharper than new ones!

Hi Stumpy... which coarseness of wheel did you get?

  6. Well after much deliberating, swaying back and forth between getting a Honda or other, I decided to risk it and bought myself a Evo420 14Hp engine. At £200 inc vat it's less than a third of the price of a GX390 so if it lasts a year or more, i'll be happy.

The fitting was very easy, as advertised it's been designed as a direct replacement for the Honda so mounting holes and drive are exactly the same.

It sounds sweet but its got a full day of grinding tomorrow so we'll see how it holds up.

I'll try to remember to update the thread in 6 months - hopefully with good news that cheaper engines are indeed a viable alternative.

Just ordered a Evo420 14Hp engine...Let's see how it goes....

    How's yours Wolfie

  7. i haven't touched my one up what so ever as spoke to a few guys who run bigger machines and was told there never the same when you sharpen them in performance wise i've only had my grinder 4 months i got it for a very good deal new less than a grand. i ordered teeth today at 4 pm will post on here when they arrive to let you know the lead times involved

I think when you are running the bigger machines (60hp+) then the shear power of these machines mean that they don't need to be sharp, but when your on smaller machines the metal must always be sharp when your cutting wood, you know, like chainsaws.

  8. I'm in this situation as well... I have a very large oak we felled the other week main bole is 6m long and 5 1/2' wide rot in the 1st 1.2 m of base and I reckon it weighs around 12t, should I post on the milling forum or else where... cheers
