  1. Not really Ben, The big roller feed drum chippers like I sell are completely HSE compliant, and believe it or not, self feed drum chippers are an anomaly, coming under no legislation.

Send me some info then...... The HSE now classify self feed drums as illegal and non compliant.Ive had numerous dealings whith them on this issue.

  2. The point I was making is you shouldn't be doing it "purely" for the money.

That would be a complete tosser.

Of course we have to earn a living out of it, I wouldn't be doing it otherwise. :awink:

But we can still earn a decent living out of it, whilst at the same time carrying out tree work in a proffessional manner and being able to take pride in your work everytime you drive past.

If we drive past a tree we have done in the past looking the other way then we need to be asking ourselve whether this is the job we should be in.

I see what your saying but there is nothing wrong with doing a job just for the money.

Making or applying a moral judgement about someones work is bollocks. Each to his own.

I started the job when I retired, to keep fit.Now I do it for the money - I enjoy the work too but you got to live.

  3. If Ed ain't jumping in here then I will. Here's a proper drum chipper.....IMHO of course. This 140hp CAT diesel 15" bad boy devours anything you care to chuck into it, mobile phones included!

Mate, if people over here had ever experienced these machines they would feel embarrased talking up Timberwolfs and Jensens and the like...the HSE in UK has ruined it all....our fun that is !!! :cussing:

  4. Yes it is my man i hate contract crap so much hse and paper and horse shite. and you have to wait for your money.

I love the domestic sector paid daily and you get appreciated.:top:

I do it for other companies tho they get me in so i just climb just the way i like it.

I hardly do any domestic - but your so right about all the crap that goes with the other work !

  5. After my and my extended families experiences with Lawyers, I have come to the conclusion that IMO they prey on the vunerable and can only be described as proffensional extortionists.

This is of course just my opinion

My most recent experience was with the Cherry picker accident and the litegation that followed. I was charged £360 for the main Solicitor and £180 for his secretary. If I wanted to up the anti and employ a barrister That would have been £600 per hour plus the dreaded

I would like to know of anyone elses experiences and opinions.

But keep the thread nice and on an even keel please.

If we'd paid attention at school we too could be earning these sums ! A man with a pen will steal more money than any man with a gun !

  6. Nobody mentioned GMI at sidcup in kent.

They are cheap, quick to take your money , they don't like giving credit. For some making the whole payment in one go is too hard though.

Not sure what this years cost will be as we had a 3rd party claim against us recently. I'm guessing at about 1500 quid.

If anyone else has has claims against their insurance I would be keen to know how much it affected the premiums

Id be interested to hear anyone's claim stories ! Has anyone had a proper disaster ! I was with one very well known cambridge guy who felled onto his own vehicle complete with his dog inside ! The dog was OK...the L Rover was'nt !

The best ive seen otherwise is broken fence panels/cracked panes of glass etc.... ??? Be brave lads and spill the beans !!!

    :scared:

  7. Oh my god! this is going to open a can of worms!

I've used quite a few and there are two I'd consider if I ever bought one,

Jenson, we've used tracked and towed ones they seem very well made and work very well. Build quality seems very good.

Timberwolf, well only used the 150 both in tracked and road tow, They seem good machines but I think they need replacing regularly, we've been using one with 1000 hrs on this week and it seems tired, with bits loose and worn.

Having said all that a mate has been using an Arbor eater for the past 2 weeks and he's singing its praises, though I think they need to run it a bit longer to get an accurate verdict

Wise words. For all round use go Jensen.
