  1. under 25's sre nightmare.. i pay £2500 to insure an 02 plate transit thats only worth 2500-3000.. 3rd party fire and theft any driver.. [which was only 100 more than namin both drivers who are both under 25].. if i wanted any driver over 25 with me as main driver its £800..

Thanks Nick I don’t feel quite as bad now!

  2. HI MATE NFU thanks jon

This quote was from the nfu I have made sure it comes up on the insurance document as a 130 single cab tipper every body else I have spoken to who insures a 130 tipper has it stated on the insurance document as a 130 crew cab pickup. If it was an old knacker of a vehicle I would not be so fussed but I don’t want to come unstuck if I was to have a claim.

  3. Cheapest quote I have had so far is £1880.00 fully comp. I’ve got a 2004 130 tipper worth £13000.00 with 1 years no claims i am 22 year old been driving for over 5 years and have never made a claim or had an accident. In my mind this is daylight robbery!

So out of interest what’s everybody else paying for 130 tippers?

  4. I think I would go down the pto chipper route.

My main justifications are that I need something with some good off road capability as the yard is a mud bath, I do a bit of paddock maintenance though not much, and recently I have had a few big clearance jobs and have found my self over loading the land rover and trailer which is something I want to stay clear of.

My main concern is that I am going to be spending thousands a year maintaining old machinery.

  5. I have been contemplating the idea of getting a u900 I was just wondering what peoples views were on them. It would be used 90% of the time for local domestic work

Couple of things that I am worried about are how expensive parts are and whether I would get away with running this as my only vehicle and not also running a 3.5 tonne?

    Cheers

    Ben

  6. To your question arborworks

“Is it possible to change our 150" 6x6 to an agricultural tax class & if so can you point us in the right direction”

Registering vehicles in the agricultural tax class is a bit of a grey area and you need to be ready to prove it is being used for an agricultural or forestry purpose in the event of being pulled over.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

To register the vehicle agricultural you need to send a copy of the vehicle log book along with a letter telling them what the vehicle is going to be used for, to your local dvla office. It is down to your local dvla office weather they think you have got enough reason to register it agriculturally.

Then if they let you register it agriculturally, to tax it you need to fill in a V112G form (Goods Vehicle Testing – Declaration of Exemption) and produce this when you come to tax the vehicle.

It took me many long phone calls this week to get this tiny bit of information. The dvla don’t seem to know their arse from their elbow.

  7. I think I have just fallen in love! Stunning land rover Arborworks. I will second what grey git said, I want one!!!

Time to find a 110 hi cap then. I bet getting it through a sva may be a problem though. I am sure I saw one a while ago at land rover fest with an extra bit of chassis plated on to the back of it, so its got to be possible.

I take that your 150 Arborworks was built up on a new chassis?

  8. I have been toying with the idea of buying a Bedford mj or similar and Registering it as an agricultural vehicle. I went to look at one today with an Atlas crane and three way tipping body which is not yet Registering as an agricultural vehicle. Does any body know how easy this is to do? Does it need an MOT to initially register it?

  9. Hi I am new to arbtalk

I would have to agree with Adam and Madmatt land rovers are defiantly an addiction! I find I am constantly looking out for new additions to join my 90 and series 2a (which is off the road at the moment due to chassis problems)

like you Adam I think my next addition is going to have to be a 110 or 130 tipper though I have been toying with the idea of registering a ex mod Bedford mj as an agricultural vehicle and fitting a tipping body and hiab. though I don’t know how long I would be able to get away with running it as an agricultural vehicle

Best of luck finding a suitable land rover. I will tell you it is luck, a friend of mine found a 1991 ex utility 110 with a good chassis and bulkhead fitted with a low mileage 300tdi discovery engine for £1500 with a year’s mot. Since then I think he’s spent about £500 on putting a brand new hicap body on it and generally beefing it up. Now it’s as nice as any 6k hicap and benefits from the higher ratio disco transfer box on motorway trips.
