  1. Yes it was a Monterey Cypress hedge. The lines that the operator is working close to are phone lines. The picture was taken across the street from where we lived and the picture was just a demonstration photo. I'm working on the photos from the 60's and 70's but with little luck at this time. My brother may have the collection from that era. I'll ask him when I see him next. Could be a while don't see him much.
  2. Not all of the trucks were the same. This beauty was a real gem.
  3. Aerial lift trucks were crude in the early days. The truck was so heavy that it didn't have outriggers. Gas mileage was not so good either! These rigs were used for line clearance in the forties and fifties. We owned them right up until the eighties. Got a little expensive to operate after a while. A bit heavy on the road tax.
  4. Roger Sohner on the left and his first and only partner Dwight Bailey on the right. Right around 1931.
  5. Mt Tamalpias in Marin County , California was always in the background. Made for a pleasant place to grow up and become a tree care professional.
  6. Your welcome by all means. What else do you do with shots like these? Most of the time pictures like these just sit in a album on the shelf. When your bored with them I'll put the album back on the shelf for another generation... Here is one of Roger in truck #15
  7. Here is one rig that got the job done. Roger F. Sohner started his life working with trees at the young age of eighteen. He attended the Davey Tree Insitute in Kent, Ohio in 1919. He applied his knowledge at the Hunnington Libary in Hunnington Beach, Calif. He started his Tree Care Service in 1931 in San Anselmo, Calif. Thanks Grandfather. Robert W. Phillips
