  1. I have recently got hold a haecksler from Jim Upson. I can not fault this machine, it smashes through the brash! its only 70cm wide, Honda engine and is built in Europe. It costs £3200 plus vat, I got one on lease from arblease and don't regret it for one minute. fantastic bit of kit that's build to last.
  2. the jansen looks like all the other Chinese rip offs. I wouldn't waste my money personally. the least you want is a good engine ie Honda and good build quality. I have recently got a haecksler and its an amazing piece of kit.

    Monkey Puzzle

Worst job I ever had, took me 2 days and I only put a day on it. If I ever do one again I will double the quote and get a subbie in to climb it.

  5. probably not, i tried to make it as short as possible to minimize sit back.

what about preparing the logs for turning? i was thinking of taking my logs to a saw mill to have him make them into turning blanks, is this necessary?
  9. self tending seems to mean different things to different climbers. for me self tending means you pull your rope down and advance up the rope with the slack passing thro the knot and the pulley. ive never managed to do it and i guess its only possible with a hitch that collapses when its not under tension and you have to be so high the weight of the rope pulls the slack through.

i did some work on a big yew the other day and collected some nice pieces. im a bit wary about turning yew as its poisonous, but i haven't read that its problem. ive read that its a good idea to practice on softwoods and then use the nice stuff when you know what you are doing. im on the lookout for a lathe. i cant find any info on using green or seasoned wood, so green wood will warp then?
  11. i wont touch another electric splitter.
  12. blake hitch very rarely jams? they tighten up all the time.
  13. when you say you 'advanced it with the pulley' what does that mean? did it self tend or did you pull the slack through?
  14. im going to buy a lathe and try my hand at woodturning. is there anyone here that can give me some advice?
