I’ve never had any luck self tending on any rope 12.5mm or less. Any of my preferred 13mm climbing ropes won’t self tend on a Zigzag. So it’s either 13mm ropes on my Spider Jack or the smaller ropes (which I like but my hands don’t) for the Zigzag

When attaching any climbing pulley as your anchor point is it better to girth or basket hitch when anchoring to a horizontal branch where the basket hitch won’t slip? I’m informed that a basket hitch retains the greatest percentage of the anchor sling’s SWL compared to the usual girth hitch. Obviously anchoring to poles you’d need a girth hitch to stop slippage.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t use this vertical adjuster on a 13mm wire core flip line?

Are there any hard and fast rules for which adjusters can and (more importantly) cannot be used on wire core flip lines? I have a petzel, ISC rope grab (old one) and ART Position 2 amongst others. Is there any no go areas when it comes to teaming up an adjuster with a wire core flipline please?

Interesting replies and kind of what I expected. Anything greater than £200 has to last a few years or is too good for Arb work. I get the breathable/ waterproof trade off. Swazi stuff looks brilliant but way too nice for tree work. Interesting on the “over priced shit” comment as I’ve yet to find a highly priced Arb waterproof that’s better than a £60 berghaus (or similar) waterproof

Hi Folk,
Im looking for the best waterproof jacket preferably with a longer back to keep my arse dry. Breathability is paramount! Anyone with any guidance who’ve actually used the jacket for a while in wet conditions. Harkie & Arbotech seems to be the market leaders. I always go back to cheap and cheerful usually finding cycling coats great especially with the three back pockets.

When you pull the saw over without using the decomp valve, does it have good compression? 7-9 years is a relatively long life by modern standards. It may be the breather or air filter...both are pretty common issues and hope ADW is correct on this.
Try lifting the 562 and 560 together on the pull start and see which one falls to earth the fastest.
Both have the same compression. Saw works like a dream all day and if never switched off will work for fun. Great saw. But after using 30 minutes plus and turning off won’t restart until 2 hours have expired and then it starts up like a brand new saw

Does anyone know the best place to repair a Husqvarna Chainsaw in the South Yorkshire area? It’s been to one place 3 times to no avail and I can’t fix it. Starts and runs perfectly but after 30-minutes use it won’t restart when turned off ; otherwise it would run all day! Love the saw so really need it repaired.

Bought kiln dried oak logs as supposed to last longer but it’s really hard to get them to stay alight?
top down lighting and loads of oxygen, especially since I added an external direct vent, and softwood burns furiously. But when kindle is gone the logs go out and I have to add loads more kindle, I’m going through more of this than oak…lol.
all logs show moister of no more than 10% but maybe more in the centre
thanks
edit…forget to say both top and bottom vents are permanently fully open!
Have you got a flue thermometer? If that’s warming up and the oak isn’t burning despite being correct moisture then there’s something going astray

Based in South Yorkshire a beech tree (40cm dbh) has shown earlier leaf drop in mid-July. Whilst I understand that this was a very dry spell and the soil here is clay based a beech (similar sized) 10 metres away hasn’t shed its leaves. Also there’s some epicormic growth appeared from the trunk at 2M high. The branches are still supple and not brittle right throughout the canopy. Obviously this tree is closer to the drive so suffers more compaction to roots (see photos). The leaf pictures are the lowest epicormic growth.

The orange frame filter is down to 25 micron, even though it may look clean they block very easily, auto tune then leans the mixture to compensate increasing heat, there is a kit to update to the mark11 air filter.
Could you send me a link for this kit please. I guess the saw is 7-9 years old now. The saw is fantastic like the 562 I bought same time; but the 560 won’t restart but works amazing when it’s running.

Is this an early 560? Is the fuel tank breather fed via a tube into the air filter housing? Is the fuel hose clipped into the cylinder partition wall, do you have the additional slot in the top cover, these things were issues on the early saws, do you have the orange frame air filter? If you have any of the above we can advise how to update them.
Orange frame air filter yes

Tried restarting 560 after 30 minutes turned off and nothing. Absolute dead pull.

Have you tested it for those 20 minutes with the fuel cap loose? If not, try that and see if it continues to run on
560 ran for 29 minutes with screw cap fuel lid unscrewed to slack allowing air in with no cut outs. Will try other Husqy later.

Just to clarify. Saws running on idle with fuel cap slightly loose to allow air in? I can do so. What’s the diagnosis if they a) idle fine or b) cut out please?

My Husqvarna 560 XP is doing the same. Any ideas? Fuel mix is 50:1 Husqvarna XP 2-sroke mixed only by me. Starts and works perfectly but when turned off after 20+ minutes work won’t restart. Plugs checked, ht lead checked, fuel correct, air filter clear. When left a day restarts instantly though 🤨

This vertical fissuring may be (probably is) as a result of the insect Cryptococcus fagisuga (Beech Scale or Felted Beech Coccus).
A defence mechanism?

Seen normal beech with more ribbed bark next to smooth barked. Not sure what the difference is.
I can’t understand such intraspecific dimorphism within the exact same location and growing conditions.

Has anyone else noticed some European Copper beech trees having different bark texture that is more textured, almost ribbed? I believe this to be Fagus sylvatica f. Purpurea or am I mid-identifying? It’s growing right next to a copper beech with normal smooth nark. I’ve seen this on a few specimens in the South Yorkshire area in domestic gardens.

My 350 has been running well but suddenly cut out and would not restart.
A good spark, good compression 125 lbs in2. Fuel not being drawn into the carburettor.
Replaced the carburettor but still not drawing fuel. New fuel lines and tank filter, It starts OK with an injection of easy start .
It seems as though there is no vacuum from the cylinder getting through to the carburettor. I have checked that the input gaskets are not blocking the inlet port.
Any ideas?
Thanks Paul
Probably too late on this but I’ve recently had problems with my Husqvarna 365 X-Torque. The unit simply wouldn’t restart at times. When started it ran fine until it needed restarting. A good chainsaw mechanic finally diagnosed it was the tank vacuum for the fuel. Harder pull starts may start it but when the fuel cap was removed and replaced this simple procedure allowed an easy restart. Not ideal but better than replacing whatever was needed.

So the problem was caused most definitely by me or as my girlfriend said, doing a Prince Andrew and tampering where I shouldn’t! So when I unplugged and plugged the head unit back in I went one plug too far to the right and managed to fry a diode. I disengaged the whole junction box and took it to
They’re based in Sheffield and charged only £35 for a fix that took them 1-day. Plugged it all back in and hey presto it worked. So be very careful when messing in the junction box that you plug back in correctly as the space between the pins is small and it’s possible to cross over very easily. Ensure you disconnect battery too which I’m guessing would have saved me all this trouble.
