  1. Hey all, I'm a regular lurker but rare poster here. Soooo hello. bbtard, was the RW used in a doubled rope set up like Cormac Nagan used at the ITCC AR? If it was used in some other configuration could you provide some detail?
  2. Ooooops, I'm talking about the one seen here. First pictures of the ART Rope Guide '10
  3. Does anyone know where and when the newest ART Ropeguide will be available? It looks very nice.
  4. Just for the record, I agree with the sentiment that working on alcohol or drugs(of any kind). Is not acceptable. This would include taking anti-histamines for that cold you might have.
  5. I felt impaired when I have tried it, so that means everyone else will be impaired, it depends whether they realise it or not. Does this mean that if peanuts make you sick they will make us all sick?
  6. you want to shoot babies because they might drive stoned one day. hate will get you nowhere in life
  7. I've talked to a few people who have one and all like it a lot. I agree, no less secure but annoying.
  8. I also really like the sawpod. It's the most secure way of attaching a saw to the leg(for me anyway). I do think that this product could be improved though. I think some heavy duty velcro straps would be nice. My biggest issue with it though is the plastic rectangle pieces on the straps. They always(and I mean from day one) twist 90 degrees when I cinch tight to my leg.
  9. I've been climbing in mine for about 8 months and it is really comfy. I do big removals and lots of pruning and for me its great no matter what kind of work I'm doing. The manufacturer sells a replacement bridge but I can't figure out that would work. My only problems so far are: the adjustable bridge tends to creep a little and the loops for accessory biners are to big for biners to fit snug. I'm curious to see or hear about how others have theirs set up. -T
  10. My old roommate used to bring home the coolest looking work gear I had ever seen, so, I started pestering him to get me a job. My first day in the tree biz was guying transplanted trees until the tree spade sunk into the mud. To my surprise nobody knew what to do. I decided maybe the new guy should speak up so I taught them that nifty little trick where you use lots of plywood and planks under the outriggers, jack it up, more plywood and planks under the wheels and away you go. New boss liked me a lot after that so he taught to climb that week. 6 years in and I'm not stopping
  11. I like to call it my "professional obsession" so I would say yes its quite addicting.
  12. I've worked on a lot of big transplants (8'-15' rootballs) and they involve lots of root pruning. On several occasions we root pruned annually for a couple years before the move. Some nurseries I know about routinely root prune all their stock so when it comes time to sell they don't have to get rid of so much soil. We also did root pruning to prevent construction damage as mentioned before. Razor sharp nursery spades, big loppers, dust brushes, and chainsaws(yeah we cut some big roots sometimes). I've never used an air spade. What are the advantages of it?
  13. Thanks for the welcome! This is a really well done forum!
