  1. You can say that about any knot, so my point is, the Helical is way more reliable than a VT.

I have never found a VT as safe as a Helical, if fine tuning to attempt it to grip without question, yet release easily. This is because the Helical has the distinct advantage of being able to cinch up the Bowline once the number of braids and wraps are found that work with a specific system, so the slack can be adjusted to the millimeter. In comparison, the VT can loosen more, because the legs have no means to prevent them from separating. This makes the Vt able to advance easier, yet that advantage can easily turn into a serious safety concern by not grabbing when required.

IMHO, setting up a VT to self tail is just asking for trouble - lightweight climbers can get away with it.

i agree with all that Laz say's on this point so far:wink:

  2. My pleasure, always keen to have another look at the helical! Its fun.

IN fact I was first shown it by the same Craig as you were! I wonder if he know any other knots yet! :)

    dont be cheeky boy.

if you want to keep up try reading the 'tree climbers knotbook' by dirk lingens its a few years old now but i'm sure that it will be all new to you:001_cool:

the 8mm cord show in your first picture is not the best choice for this knot.

  3. as ayoung man (18) i rushed down to kent with a gang i'd just started out cutting pulp for (200 quid a week) on the promise of untold riches, production was plentiful, worked 12hr days, one good week, market flooded, went home to discover father had sold 4x200 hoppus ft burr elms for £10 cube, did the maths and decided its not who you know, its what you know

    true

i went down on the same promise (but a little older) stayed for a few weeks and realised there was no one at home to do the work there, so came home.

  4. got beasted on my first day at work like that they called it the reverse butterfly, in the warehouse over a beam, hoisted 2m off the ground and spun around till i was about to throw up.

A few guys(and me) did this at a comp a few years back, besides throwing up, blood shot eyes, i ended up in hosptial with a brain hemorage:scared1: for a few weeks. i dont think that we realise how fragile our bodies are some times.

  5. have you climbed in the treebee craig?

not in anger, i find that both the high tec harness have too low a balance point for me, more so on the hopper, may be better for a girl as there point of balance is lower, but what do i know

  6. The rule on numbers in the Masters was proposed for change at AGM of ITCC. Recommended that always should be at least 3 in the Masters. Watch this space.:001_smile:

that justifes the decision made in belgium then

  8. I'd be interested to know what happens to that money and why its changed.

    Are there problems with sponsors??

It just seems like a backwards step to me. Surely, the climbers are the focus? We're putting on a show for the ISA really aren't we?

Were ISA members consulted on this?? I certainly don't remember being asked? It wasn't so long ago I sat in on AGMs where we were asked for suggestions for the future of the comps...

    so would others!

HB are not sponsoring any more since martin has left

    Yep

that was when it was a idependant PA and not a sub committee as it is now.

  9. Judge might know he's in Farsley.

not Aire Valley (based near LBA airport now, after i sold it) there is Acacia tree services nr wakefield/south leeds.

On a similar note a guy in Italy was killed on a golf course, owned by Fiat, when a tree fell on him while he was about to tee off, the first time ever the course had been open on a easter monday and the first time the guy had played a round of golf:tdown:
