I began my career in Bristol, had no tickets or even a lid. Got out the phone book, cold called around, got a job dragging brash which gave me a foot in the door and went from there. Sometimes the best way as you get a feel for the industry without costing yourself a fortune.

Hi John! Assume you're the same John that worked with me and Andy Maule, Stu etc?

Hi Robert. I used to freelance around Bristol and I think it's still pretty common as there are a few small companies that don't want to commit to full time employees.
I think your best bet is to get on the phone to a few companies to offer your services - which is hard before you have your tickets!
Perhaps, if you're serious, offer a day of labour to a couple of small companies as a way in. You can drag brash, rake up, load logs etc, get a feel for the job and have a natter to the guys on site about future work. If you work hard and show up on time they you're more than halfway there!

Great post, thanks Dave.

Calm down chaps. This argument is getting boring.

I've got a Lifeproof case with strap - had it a few years and it's been great.

Chris Cooper-Abs is good too. He has a company called Arbmatters based in Warwickshire.

Now there is no scope for replacement tree planting.
Why not? There seems to be a nice patch of grass there that would take an appropriate sized arboreal feature

I know, I was using the search function to try and decide on ordering the Leica d8 or truepulse. I came across this and tagged it on the end instead of starting a new thread, is there a problem with that?
Not at all!
How much do you want for the clino?

If I walked about Iraq/ Somalia/ Pakistan/ Afghanistan etc I would get killed.
Would you really though?!

And of offending Politically Correct Moderators.
Just because I have a different view on the world than you, doesn't make me 'politically correct' or any more likely to moderate your posts

I find it baffling that trump wants to ban muslims yet refuses to carry out basic background checks on his own people wanting guns. 100,000 a year shot and 15,000 shot dead.
The number of terrorists deaths in Europe has been below 200 for the last 2 years and considerably lower in previous years (maybe rising?), so out of a European population of 500,000,000 your chances of being killed in negligible.
There are 20,000,000 muslims living in Europe in a fully integrated harmonious society, do any of you seriously believe they all want us dead? If they did we would know about it.
I'm not stupid, I'm well aware that some certainly do, but they are few and far between.
Well said that man

That's even more ridiculous than the petition to stop him coming on a state visit!
1. He doesn't have to visit to enable free speech.
2. He hasn't been gagged.
3. It took most other presidents a few years in office to get an invite for a state visit.
4. 'Appose' isn't even a word.

I know how you feel - it's hard to potentially lose a job or a client, but sometimes it's the best risk to take. Particularly if they make a habit of mullering trees!
-
Have a word with your client explaining that as a professional (and presumably member of AA/ICF etc) you are bound by codes of ethics to report on sites as you find them. If you believe the 'damage' isn't terminal for the trees then you can state than in the report and perhaps avoid enforcement action for your client.
After all, it's your reputation and relationship with the LPA on the line.

According to the Guardian migrants from some Muslim countries are getting turned away from planes heading to the USA.
Trump is handling being President like an absolute boss.
Didn't have you down as a Guardian reader!

It's been a while since I climbed regularly and all my kit is now more than 10 yrs old and without the original certificates of conformity etc.
So, I am looking for a 'bundle' for two basic climbing kits to allow us to carry out aerial inspections etc and comply with LOLER.
I think all I will need is:
2 x harnesses
2 x climbing ropes
2 x eye to eye prusik cords
2 x micro-pulley / hitchclimber pulleys
2 x adjustable strops
8 x karabiners
2 x helmets
Any suggestions of a good lightweight kit and any 'ready-made' bundles gratefully received. I've seen a few complete kits on websites but they seem to contain more than I need.

Hello. That's a pretty spicy first post on the forum. My advice would be sort it out between yourselves or report it to the police. Simples!

There's no right of appeal against the making of a TPO.
...except a Judicial Review at the High Court but this would need to relate to a procedural failing in the way the order was administered.

What a STUPID stupid stupid reply!!! Apart from fecking the thread up, why don't you engage your brain, read my suggestions and use a little improvisation.

It might be helpful, but you'll need some large and robust guards to stop stones (and dust) from raining down over all the pavement and nearby cars.
It's horrible work to be honest!
