A good climber doesn't consider killing himself in the middle of hedge-trimming the top of a 40ft x 8ft x 200 ft leylandii hedge.
I fail on this count...

What's the name of the place?
-
Half an hour or less, ideally. Where do you have in mind?

Anyone seen those 'goodness shakes'? they're milkshakes, but they are packed with multivitamins and junk. Don't taste bad, either.

I'm from Swansea, but have been working in Hampshire for the past few month. I am experienced in roadside (local authority) and garden work I have also felled forestry stands and have dismantled several large trees.
In my last company, I was the only person with NPTC's, so had to run the show, day to day; helping my boss to quote some jobs and decide how to best fell and take down mature specimens. I also purchased and inspected their climbing equipment.
The company I currently work for are called 'Cannon Horticulture'. They run Hampshire and West Berkshire's highway contracts and manage some of the parks. We work weekends and work long hours in the week, as we are on callout every day and I also take part in the 24 callout rota.
Although I don't have my cs39, I will be sitting the test soon, I have been climbing for nearly 3 years and cutting with the 200t every day for 2. I also take an active interest in industry developments and am studying for my Royal Forestry Society Certificate in Arboriculture. I currently have a Forestry NVQ: Level 2. I also hold a 4 day certificate In first aid, an UK driving license and a CITB MEWP ticket.
If you are interested in having me on board, I can forward a CV.
I am also punctual and get on with practically everyone blah blah I'm great...

you're not allowed to climb if the bird is nesting, but sometimes you just can't tell. Why punish us if we can't help it?
-
How about hitting a nest out or hitting a pigeon with a throwline?
We can't exactly spend time waiting to see if there's any regular feeding activity going on, can we. And what if the tree is dangerous (e.g. heaved over a highway)?
-
I wouldn't harm them, but I hate it when the chicks are in the nest and their stupid little craney neck are thrusting out to try an peck you. It angers me, but I just leave them in peace. I have, however, hit two nesting pigeons with the throwbag this year. I can't help it if I can't see them, can I.
As for not pruning because of the nesting season; what do they suggest we do instead. Should farmers keep their flails off the hedges at this time of year, too?

Found a nest with eggs today in a row of Leylandii ,decided to leave it thats just me ,some of the guys wanted to waste them .We can come back and fell and chip the remaining tree in 30 mins no probs there. I know there not protected but it just seems a bit pointless if you dont have to.What do you lot say
I thought every bird was protected.

Good. I'm climbing a butterfly II at work, so will be able to compare the two. Thanks for the link, HighScale, but I found it myself. Will feedback when it arrives and I try it out.

I agree rentachimp, the Treeflex dioes look like a great harness, I don't think its exactly the finished article(designwise), but a great harness nevertheless.
The construction and build quality look excellent.
Let us know how you get on with it.
I will when I get it, but is it actually for sale, yet?
-
Hi Chimp
Dead keen to ask why this harness in particular?
Cheers
Nod
I think it's because the designers are obsessed with body-mechanics and ergonomics. The claims I've heard excite me greatly, as I consider working with your body's natural flow (as opposed to fighting against it) to be paramount in avoiding injury and physical stress. The fact that the harness is built with this principal in mind makes it the clear choice for me.
Abacus industrial safety equipment are selling it, but is it actually available?

I'm on the verge of buying one. Any rants or raves to sway me?
-
I am resigned to the fact that I will never afford to buy a house. It's a thought that gets me through the day.
-
is that "the secret life of trees"?
You gottit, Steve!

I'm reading the Colin Tudge book. Very well written. If you like reading, buy it.

The Hobbit, followed by The Dungeon. Nice place

A cheaper option is to carry a spare side casing. Just whip it off and slap the spare one on; four screw job

I prefer McCulloch because they are black like my heart.
350 & 357xp Husky and 200t (or Toot as I like to call it, I just decided),260, 341, 361, 441, 660, & 880 Stihls all are stonking saws, I find. I think Stihl are killing Husky for UK sales, though.
I like the look of husky the most, though. Or Makita
