  1. Got to agree with steve on this one, the internet is the way to sell. For the cost of a small light business unit for storage purposes, you just got to mail out the orders. Think of the floor area alone needed for displaying kit in a normal showroom. Seems to me that more and more small businesses are failing that try to go the traditional route of running a premises. Best of luck with your venture Baz.

  2. The lift they get when they catch a wave is incredible, at some points they were at 90deg upright to the water, and when one overcooked it, it totally flipped over!! This led to a red flag for the race, but as 13 out of 14 laps had been completed, then a winner is decided. I think the most awesome part is that of the helicopter, who carries the race umpire, skimming just over the water, and banking round as tight as the boats, ensuring that they keep within the marker bouys.

  3. why a full road closure? sure you cant just hold the traffic up for short periods

Yes you can delay traffic for up to 10mins max, unless you are near traffic lights, roundabouts, level crossings, or near bad bends that will impair visibility of the motorists. And you must still have relevant signage to Ch8. As has been said, if in doubt hire in the TM guys, as they then have full responsibility for the road works, and if anything does go wrong then its their problem.

  4. The ticket for putting out signs on the highway is Chapter8 (signing, lighting and guarding) and one of the gang must have a supervisor ticket. It is a legal requirement to ensure the correct spacings of cones signs and barriers on the highway for the relevant road speed. Dual Carriageways and Motorways are different to A,B and C class roads.

  5. If it requires a full closure then you have to apply for that,(DoT I think) and its costs!! Even a partial closure on any route, then emergency services should be made aware!! If there is other roadworks of any kind on the same stretch of road, then you have to acquire their permission and coordinate thru them, as they control that road. It is a nightmare to get sorted, best left to the TM boys, and expensive. If its just one tree, you may be able to sign to ch8, have stop/go boards, and wait for the traffic to ease then bang it out. You will need plenty of hands on board for this tho, and not really the best way from a legal point of view.

  6. On a slightly different tack, I was sent a few years back, to cut down a lilac, no more than 6feet tall at an old ladies home. jumped out of truck, cut down lilac, chucked it in the back, about 5 mins on the way home. She had the money ready to pay, in cash, £170. I thought this was a bit high, but didnt say that to her, merely commented that she may have misunderstood the price and that it was unusual for staff to collect cash, (did it all the time) and to contact the office for collection. Quite honestly, I didnt want to be party to ripping off the elderly. Still dunno to this day if it was extreme, dont think I would have charged that much.
