Stihl MS200T

My ms 200t has started to be a little hesitant to rev up. It starts and revs out ok and still cuts well but the slight delay on the throttle is annoying me. All the usuals seem ok eg filters, plug, fuel.

Is this saw likely to need a carb kit?

Before geting too concerned, just try richening the L screw a little, probably no more than a 1/8 turn anti clockwise should do it. This can't harm the saw and its possible that the problem is due to slight wear in the carb.

If this does the trick you should be OK, but should really get the H setting checked by someone who knows what they are doing, as it might be that the L adjustment has weakened due to an air leak which will also effect the H. If this is the case it could result in expensive failure if not rectified.

Spot on, beat me to it! One simple check to the high speed running is to do a few flat out cuts, stop the engine and look at the plug colour, if it is coffee coloured, all is good. graphit grey or bleached white is bad news and get it checked quickly!

Good point Steve. Upon reflection it might be best to look at the plug before adjusting anything at all.

If the plug is a healthy coffee colour then the H setting is OK and there are no serious problems. Just adjust the L screw as advised to get the right idle and pickup.

If the plug is white or greyish then there may be trouble brewing and expert advise is needed.
