Ryobi PCN 4040 not oiling

Hi, I have inherited a Ryobi PCN 4040 two stroke chain saw. The saw starts OK, but there is no oil to the cutter bar. I have removed the bar and checked no chip blockage, there is plenty of fresh oil in the tank, I suspect that the oil pump is not working . Am I right to say that to get to the oil pump I need to take the bottom off the saw? From the diagrams it appears to be deep inside the crankcase. Are spares available? thanks in advance

I'm not sure about that exact model but most saws I have changed the oil pump on require that the clutch is removed to gain access, which means that the side is stripped out rather than the bottom.

If I remember correctly the only two saws that had bottom access were the Stihl ms250 and a cheap best green one but that was a few years ago??

Post up any pics and we could possibly help a little bit more

These Ryobis use a nylon oil pump gear that wears until it stops, it is usually mounted on the engine and is only accessible by taking the whole engine out.

It is a right old PITA TBH, did one once and flogged it on ebay for £50....what a life:001_.rolleyes::lol:

Good luck with it!

My friend has a similar problem. I will help him with this issue. thanks for your help.
