Different type of Ebay scam .

This happened to me a while back . I was watching/bidding on a Honda V twin engine . It was cash on collection and I won . Contacted seller to arrange a convenient time to pay and collect . Heard nothing . So got contact details from Ebay and phoned . Bloke sounded puzzled when I said who I was . Turns out someone had already come , paid and taken the engine . So I lost nothing ( other than a bargain ) . One of 2 things came to mind . Either the seller did not want to let it go for what it made or someone else was watching the auction and was local to the seller and thought I will have that at that price . It never showed up for auction again .
