Hi all,

Would this be F. punctata on Fagus sylvatica? Sw it at Epping on the ATF visit and a few of us thought it was indeed this fungus. Realised I had never checked, so thought I'd ask.

If it's not too common on beech and it is indeed this fungus, I can try to find the tree again, as I kind of remember where it is (sad, eh!).

Cheers,

Chris

A.f is quite pale, on my phone the pics look pink tinged and the brackets look old (i can also only view the first two). I claim no certainty!

It's not Aurantiporus, and I don't believe it be F. punctata.

Shame you didn't get a wedge of flesh.

Gonna say it was out of reach ain't ya ?

Perenniporia fraxinea sometimes does a weird resupinate thing on beech.

But without the flesh it's just a guess.

I tried to get a wedge of flesh, but it was impossible. Not because of my average height (ahaha), but because there was no flesh to cut. Totally flat against the wood, and incredibly thin. Even Ted Green tried getting some flesh and couldn't!

A true fung hunter never lets something as trivial as height get in his way.

You should have got on Ted's shoulders...............now that would of made a fine fung hunting photo

Even the thinnest of slivers can help bag an Id :thumbup1:

I'll get them to fell the beech.

In all seriousness, I'll go back (I'll go up probably during June - coming back up to the Heath as well, to explore for a day) and try and get a bit of the fungus.
