Battery life on tipper - a quick heads up

If the batteries were 06 then soon due for a change anyway. Capacity reduces with age so using them without the engine running would quickly drain them. If they were new or good condition you would probably get away with doing that. Not a good idea though, normal car or truck lead acid batteries do not react well to being almost fully discharged. Traction/ leisure batteries are more suited to a deep cycle.

If it's a genuine ford battery I'm not surprised they're rubbish. Shame they're not like the old motorcraft ones. Remember with batteries you get what you pay for

 

In fairness they've been on the van all its life (9 years) so that's nowt to complain about.

I can't honestly say. I deduced that one was not holding any charge, and as they were both 10 years old there seemed no point in risking possible/likely failures by only replacing one.

 

I'll keep them both in the garage and do some experimenting with them -

Haaaaaa the storm is at it's height... etc.
