Sloppy Chain In Groove - Not Cutting Straight

To be fair to my pal he is the kind of mate you can ring up at stupid o clock when you have broken down and he will be there in a flash with a tow rope in hand.

He has his own chainsaw but it's only a 12" Stihl and he was removing a line of Lawson Cypress so I said he could use my 61.

I checked the bar with a square and one rail was higher than the other by about 1mm so I levelled it up on the belt linisher. Next I checked the groove width with a digital vernier and it was 2.09mm at its widest point, so about 0.6mm of slop in the bar. I used a hammer and anvil to close up the gap, testing it with the existing chain and prising back open any tight spots with a flat piece of spring steel.

Tested it and it cuts beautifully, I can now take of 1/4" slices off an 18" log with perfectly plumb cuts!

Thank you for the advice, saved myself some money which is always a good thing.
