Kawasaki TH-23 hedge trimmer issues

Huston we have a problem..

There appears to be no adjuster at the bottom of the hole. There was no plug material in the hole but iv had a careful scrape and blow only revealing a flat brass bottom to the hole. Carb has 5A 248 on the body and thats about it. It could be after market i suppose but it isn't recent for sure. The screw on the throttle pall is fully extended in a attempt to keep the motor running by previous intervention .

 

Update..Is Walbro genuin carb but it seems to be the one you said had a ball or similar to make it non adjustable after further inspection with a magnifier . Looks like thats that then and a new version carb is on the cards unless there is anything else.

Have run it up again after pulling the throttle linkage and taking a look at the tiny little tube in the Venturi… all clean and functioning as before when reassembled.

Think I have seen those photos before Barrie:thumbup: still very informative and did that exact same tune on an Echo trimmer for Wolfie a few days ago....all good stuff.

 

Those old Kawasaki strimmers are good bits of kit, the coils can be a bit iffy sometimes but are very strong otherwise and still make good money!

You don't need a whole carb, just a replacement rotary valve. I keep them in stock for this eventuality as they have an adjustable jet. Not expensive.

Update on this.

 

Upon closer examination of chip's images it looks like the carb on this machine may have been 'cut and shut' at some stage. The carb body is a WYJ but the throttle body appear to be that of a WYB carb. So a WYB throttle body is in the post to Sawchip, which will hopefully sort this machine out.

Part arrived ( new throttle body /choke unit) from Gardenkit today and is now fitted to the trimmer.

Success..solid tick over out the pkt after checking with the Tach and running it for a while plus starting from cold again it can now leave the workshop.
