I'll ask madam if she minds me wrecking her lawn with me pickaxe!

 

Seriously, access is rubbish and no way would she countenance her garden being mined on the offchance that it would help. We're not even talking abut the topsoil here; you'd need to go down a bit first.

Sorry to mislead; the steel "wrecking bar" referenced is <4cm wide so would make perceptible holes in lawns. They can go ~1m deep ime.

 

It's work, but often quite worth the effort.
