I have just bought a lawnflite hydro mower this thing is a beast heavy but its so tough you coul run it over with a digger and break the digger. Anyway i was exited about fixing it untill i found the price of a new gearbox. I guess its a seald unit The input shaft turns but the output does not cables all lool tight. Has any one know of an economical way to fix or should I weigh it in?

You may be able to get the hydro pump mended by a specialist but it will be an expensive job:(

What mower is it from a ride on or a walk behind?

And how much is the new pump?

I've got a huge toro ride on (7ftcut) and that's my biggest worry(having the main pump go) as they are a grand!!!

Its a walk behind 4 wheels gxv160 engine all works well. I am on the look out for a decent wheeled mower this one came up cheap to good to be true. I thought gearboxes where deer like £300 as with the roller mower. But i never imagend they could charge over 60% of cost of new mower for a smallish part ( £750 ). I have got two new honda mowers but one is like a bomerang allways going back to dealer ( under warranry ) so iam not so keen to buy new. Parts are so expensive I guess you have to buy new.

That's the big problem I see with hydro mowers great when working expensive if they break.

I've been lucky with my Honda mowers no problems at all except someone nicked the dead mans handle off one last week!!
