Why is it better to turn bottom hinge and not top 1?

 

there will be too much weight on the top pin and the pin will bend, just wait till someone decides to swing of the gate

Very nice jobs there. What do you guys use to dig the post holes? Post hole shovel, normal shovel or earth auger? Starting to get a few jobs been now, digging by hand currently but thinking of getting an auger either petrol or one to go on my 1.5ton mini digger. What would people recommend?

depends the size of the job most of the time i dig by hand i quite enjoy it, but if im busy and need to get it done i have a petrol auger with an 8" bit its fine if its good ground.

sorry sam, ive been fencing for years, it was my trade before getting into trees and im still fencing now but ive never heard that:confused1:im not saying youre wrong but i wouldnt agree. have you ever tried bending those pins? it isnt easy and not sure even possible!
