Sorry.., I just can't believe it's that easy and fun to do! Did some milling with the Alaskan today -first time, new home-made frame- and it worked superbly. Started with a smallish sweet chestnut log, worked a treat!ImageUploadedByArbtalk1432056007.825351.jpg.f1ebb4dadae1f2793848c56cc827ed51.jpg

True, amazing and fun. A bit daft when you think about it... -just trying it out now, after using a chainsaw almost every day for the last 20 years!

Very nice indeed - out of interest how much would each of those bits of milled timber be worth? Do you think it's more financially viable than using it for firewood? - obviously if it was not sweet chestnut.

That's I cannot tell you. I think it mainly depends on the sort of wood. We cut up a lot of trees for firewood, but we do sometimes have clients who want to make a table or something else out of their old tree in the garden.

One of our clients needs long an wide slabs of poplar for restoring an old farm door/gate -slabs have to be 20" wide and at least 20' long, they pay about £75 per piece only for cutting.

But just for cutting cheap timber it won't be economical.
